A bust of Deverka, a small piece of the treasure.

Deverka's tomb is a magnificent example of Morekian architecture and culture. It was built by Steward Bustoarsenzio to house Deverka's earthly remains.

No expenses were spared, and artisans and craftsmen from all theocracies spent months perfecting the precious artifacts and jewels that were to adorn the tomb. Over five thousand pieces of gold were spent to finance them. A vast treasure, worthy of Morek's greatest, was to be buried with him. The treasure was shipped to Unterstrom from all over, statuettes from Astrum, gold plates from Morek, jewels from Mt. Black. However, only half of the treasure ever reached the tomb. A large amount was stolen, by a heathen trader from Turbul, who had been responsible for shipping some of it to the tomb. All traces of the lost treasure vanished, and it was soon forgotten, as the treasure that still remained in the tomb was so great and beautiful. The thief would have passed into oblivion, and his story would forever have been unheard, had it not been for a journal recently discovered by Auroran travelers by the banks of North Divide.

Diary of Zephyrus Arbalest

Day 1: Unterstrom

We managed to evade the guards in Unterstrom. We told them we were carrying food grains in our caravans, and they didn't even stop us for an inspection, with so many caravans moving in an out. The treasure is ours! Master has promised me, his captain, a tenth of the treasure, one caravan full of the brightest jewels in the world.

Day 2: Elntorak I cant help but feel uneasy. Things have been going wrong since we left Unterstrom, its as if we've been cursed. First two of the caravans broke down. Our horses fell ill after drinking water from the streams flowing to the Maian Bay, as did a few of our men. As if that weren't enough, we were attacked by undead in the middle of the night. We lost 22 men, and 16 horses. We have but 18 men left.

Day 3: Fatexna

(Morning)

We are almost in Turbul... Just a little more to go. We are down to 15 men. Our scout spotted a large band of about 40 bandits holding the bridge. I dont know how Master intends to get past them.

(Evening)

A storm is brewing.

We've been ordered to start digging pits to put the treasure in. The bandits have seen us, and are moving to intercept.

(3 hours later)

The bandits attacked us. We made a break for the river, and killed 13 of them, but now there are but seven of us. Five caravans of treasure we buried, and with the rest we are hastening with to the bridge. The bandits are in pursuit. The storm is very great. Even as I write, huge waves are coming up the river. We've reached the bridge. The bandits have given up their chase, but we have increased our pace, lest the river swallow us and the bridge.

This will be my last entry in this diary... The river has submerged the two ends of the bridge, we are caught in the middle, and the water level keeps rising. I am sorry I ever took part in this. It has wrought my doom, and I beg for mercy to the powers above.

Thus the thieves met a grisly end, watching slowly as the waters rose, being pulled away, finally being crushed to death by the rocks in the rapids below.

What of the treasure? Auroran authorities have uncovered the five caravans left behind in Fatexna, and returned it to the tomb. However, the remaining 15 caravans were lost along with the thieves. Did the treasure finally end up on the shores of the Divide mountains? Or is is buried at the bottom of the river? Auroran investigators are busy searching, but it will be a long time yet before it is found.
