Full Turns Starting Tomorrow! January 22, 2008

Turns will begin soon

Another full turn was run manually, and again without errors. As everything appears to work out well, I will start regular turns tomorrow. Startup will remain active for a few more days, so you can set up your lords, knights, estates as well as recruitment centers and workshops without having to worry about a "rush for land".

Seasons and Turns January 22, 2008
First of all, turns are running slowly on Dwilight, apparently manually triggered by Tom at irregular times. It also appears that Dwilight will use seasons, like the Far East Island.

Strict Name Enforcement is the Rule January 15, 2008
In case you thought that the Serious Medieval Atmosphere wasn't going to be very strict, then think again. Characters have already been warned for improper forms of address, and deleted for inappropriate names. While the name policy may be lax on the other islands, it will be enforced on Dwilight.

Names on Dwilight
I have begun to enforce very strict rules for names on Dwilight, both character and family names, and unit names next. These rules will result in character being deleted, without prior warning if they are new characters (i.e. no prestige, etc. that you'd lose).

Later, when Dwilight runs, the rules might be less strict, but for the moment I will delete every character with an inappropriate and/or unrealistic name, down to characters whose names are all lowercase.

While that might sound harsh, my view is that the game makes it very clear in multiple places that we are looking for realistic and proper names.

Dwilight Open (Occasionally...) January 14, 2008
Dwilight will be open for the creation of new characters, every now and then. If you're lucky enough to be one of the few who manage to catch it when it's open, then we look forward to seeing you there.

Moving to Dwilight
During the next few days, character creation on and later immigration to Dwilight will be available every now and then for a limited time and number of characters. We need to make sure that the few realms are not flooded with more characters than they can handle.

There will be no specific announcements for when it's open. It's also not random or anything, so there is no point in trying it every few minutes. Slots will be open once or twice a day, depending on how things are on Dwilight.

Dwilight Immigration Message January 11, 2008
Someone who recently immigrated to Dwilight provided us with the immigration message you receive when you arrive:

A wild and unconquered place, overrun with monsters, where humans carve out a living in small settlements fighting the wilderness. Dwilight is huge, and much of it is still uncharted. Dwilight is our serious medieval atmosphere world.

– Dwilight Immigration Message

Expanded: Some have been able to witness people emigrate, such as in Taselak, SEI:

Noble has left (2 hours, 10 minutes ago)

Osric Inspirion (Knight of Taselak) was seen in Sandalak, boarding a ship to Dwilight.

Dwilight as the new Roleplaying Island? January 10, 2008
There was a recent, very long thread on the Discussion List regarding the possibility that Dwilight will be the new, enforced roleplaying island. Tom sent the following message to the List:

Here is one thing I am contemplating about Dwilight:
I would really, really like to have at least _one_ BattleMaster world that is strictly hardcore proper roleplaying. FEI failed in that regard, we can discuss at length why, but it did.
I am seriously thinking about putting a very visible boiler plate on Dwilight to say that it is meant as a serious simulation of a medieval world.
Funny name? Badger/Doughnut/whatever inappropriate roleplaying? Powergaming with disregards for hierarchy, honour, etc? Any of those and I'll deport your character from Dwilight to some random other island.
I would be especially very harsh on the rulers. And I mean _very_ harsh. Any strategic secessions or other powergaming, any "I declared this war to appease the peasants, don't fear I'll never attack", or even not being upset about being called by your first name by a commoner will get you booted if you're a ruler.
Very hardcore from the beginning, so that after a while there is a core of players on the island who share this interest in playing a medieval roleplaying game, and who will watch out for themselves and kick out any disturbers.
Is it worth the try?

Tom

It is important to point out that this does not mean that you need to send long-winded messages telling stories every time your character does something. What it means is that you need to have a good character concept, and always act within that concept. You should have in-character reasons for your character's actions, and stick with them. Tom created this wiki page to help define what he means when talks about a serious role playing island: Serious Medieval Atmosphere. If you plan on playing a character on Dwilight, this page is really required reading.

More Details on How Dwilight Will Start January 10, 2008
Tom sent the following message to the Discussion List detailing quite a bit more information on how Dwilight will open. As always, if you happen to be one of the lucky few who get to start there before the rest of us, then we'd love to hear from you regarding any details you are able to reveal.

Here's how I think right now the next steps regarding Dwilight will work:
a) I will bring in a few hand-picked players first so that we can assure that every realm has a few reliable people who will watch out for that

whole atmosphere thing.
b) I will open new character generation first, emmigration afterwards. No turns are running on Dwilight at this time, so you don't miss out on anything, I simply don't want 50 people arriving all at the same time. We all need to settle in, start some welcomings and roleplays and sort things out and that's simply easier if there's not a flood of people.
c) Then, turns will start. Like with other islands, Dwilight will start in "startup mode", where you can't leave your realm. This gives every realm an opportunity to get the internal politics up, appoint lords to the few regions, elect a government and all that, without a mad rush for land.
d) I will watch the number of characters closely and I will probably temporarily close emmigration and/or character creation every now and then for a day or two, so as to not flood the few realms with their few regions. Yes, the idea is that they expand, but again it is easier to manage everything if there's not a sudden flood.

Religions being prepped for Dwilight January 10, 2008
With Dwilight comming up, alot of religion concepts have been made. Among them, the Blood Cult, based on aztec mythology, and Soken, based on far-eastern traditions, both have strong cultural flavours. Others I have seen include The Cult of Blissful Dementia and Desperatism, and I believe there are many more that have been though of, though many of these concepts lack the character support to either get started or to grow. Another notable religion would be Sanguisastroism, which, though I have yet to see any evidence indicating it has any support, is the only official religion for one of the starting realms upon which I could fall upon.

Player Characters on Dwilight January 9, 2008
The first of the contest winner player accounts was spotted as having characters on Dwilight yesterday. With their characters active on Dwilight, it should (hopefully) be a short time before the island is ready for open immigration. We're all waiting (im)patiently for the chance to move there ourselves.

Dwilight opening in "...a few days." January 8, 2008
The following message was recently sent to all nobles on the SWI:

Immigration to Dwilight will open up in a few days.
I will now teleport all your characters to your capital, and disband all units.
You should be able to immigrate to any island of your choice, or wait until Dwilight opens.

Dwilight to open soon? January 6, 2008
Dwilight has now been added on the emigration page.

If all that is fine with you, then choose a world to emigrate to:

  • Travel to East Continent
(699 active nobles, 12 realms. Avg. tax income: ca. 79 gold/week)
  • Travel to Atamara
(1081 active nobles, 15 realms. Avg. tax income: ca. 72 gold/week)
  • You can not travel to Beluaterra
(486 active nobles, 17 realms. Avg. tax income: ca. 90 gold/week)
No ships are going that direction, due to the presence of monsters, undead and worse.
  • South-West - No immigration to this world possible currently.
  • Travel to Colonies
(272 active nobles, 8 realms. Avg. tax income: ca. 54 gold/week)
  • Travel to Far East
(406 active nobles, 11 realms. Avg. tax income: ca. 80 gold/week)
  • Dwilight - No immigration to this world possible currently.
