Tormentor of the Dead

All mortals are destine to die eventually. Once they travel through the gate of the Burning Abyss and reach the depths of the Underworld, the Lord of the Dead will greet them from his black throne. While elves ascend to the Sacred Veil to join their Divine Mother in the Emerald Halls, men end up in the Chambers of Suffering. Men are tortured by their memories of suffering in Xeph'Eul's domain. Once they overcome their painful memories, they will be allowed step into the Throne Room of Terror. Xeph'Eul will appear in the most horrifying shape each individual can possibly imagine. If a mortal man fails to overcome his fear, Xeph'Eul will devour the soul of the person. Those who manage to survive Xeph'Eul will be allowed to continue their journey deeper into the Underworld.

Xeph'Eul

He is also known as Xeph'Eul the shapeshifter or the shapeless. He appears differently to every person. The only commonality among his various appearances is that they will always be the most frightening thing people have ever encountered. He feeds on frightened and terrified souls.

The Chambers of Suffering

Xeph'Eul's domain is called the Chambers of Suffering. He resides in the very center of his domain, the Throne Room or the Throne of Fear, where he feeds on pitiful mortals. There are exactly 99 chambers in the domain and every mortal has to go through all of them. Each chamber shows different events occurred in the person's life, all of them are related to suffering, pain, and agony. Many will succumb to their memories and forget to move forward. When some people manage to go through all the chambers and reach the last chamber, the 99th chamber, they encounter the Avatar of Terror himself. Only the bravest of the brave barely escapes the grasp of fear.
