A Funny, Petty War

City of Kalmar, January
How the war goes at the Islands of Chaos? Well…
First of all it is not a war. It is something that at least East Continent faces for first time in its history. For five great realms (including the first three military powers that for years lead East Continent), having together more than 1 million population and an army of more than 250k CS, attacked two of the smallest that ever existed in the continent. With slightly more than 3000 population -at the beginning of the war- and t nearly 20k combat strength together. Does this looks a war to you? Because if it does, then there is a problem…
Perdan and Old Rancagua attack to restore the government of a colony that existed in the Islands years ago. Now what government will rule Islands which will be completely scattered with no income at all, is another story. The suggestion of our newspaper is that Perdan should better fight to restore the lands that lost in the recent war than to become the puppet of Sirion and Co.
Sirion attacks because the banner of Avamar Selective reminds it the “Black Hand” according to the statement of Handow (see references).
Fontan (after several attacks) decided that the reason of war is the claim on the lives of Widfara and Eireka (see Gregor’s words). Of course these nobles have left Avamar Selective but again this is not a problem for the brave realm of Fontan which has such a tradition of attacking weak realms.
And finally Itornut… Well Itornut attacks because it has nothing better to do!
It is unimaginable though what this war has cost to these realms and what will give them in return (see relevant article).

"Perdan betraying its Friends …again"
History Repeating

Perdan has a long history of wrong political and military decisions and thus it now forced to ally with the last realms that still trust it. Realms like Itornut which until few months ago was an enemy.

Long ago Perdan refused even the political support to the falling and starving realm of Rancagua by lowering the diplomatic relationships to peace from alliance because a Rancaguan trader visited the…black market in Perdan!

Later on, refused to help Avamar with the excuse that Perdan was too far away and its army was engaged fighting Itornut (the ally of today) and Ibladesh.

Then it was the turn of Oligarch. Military help was refused as for the last years Perdan was ready to win the war at the south and it needed only few months more. We all know the fate of Oligarch and the outcome of the war.

Finally even the small realm of Ubent felt the impact of the incapable political and military leadership of Perdan. The small and peaceful realm was the only one that was helping Oligarch with what it could. But Perdan persuaded them to join their struggle. Soon Ubent was forced to accept a shameful treaty that puts a limit to its combat strength to 6k CS.

So today, mighty Perdan, having sold all allies and friends, teams up with enemies to destroy some weak realms and restore its position to the Continent. A position long lost although the Perdanese nobles prefers to live their dream and pretend that they are still an Empire. As Sirion very successfully stated “Perdan only exists because we allowed it” (See Last Annotation). Another cruel and raw truth spoken by a Sirionite. It is petty though that this gracious behaviour so rarely given by the elves didn’t make the Perdanese better. And what was granted to them is refused to others.

The Economics of War
"Analysts go crazy!"

Well let’s assume that finally Sirion and Fontan, together with their puppets Old Rancagua and Perdan which successfully begged and granted from their big friends the essential help will win the war.

Up to now, Old Rancagua is loosing half income from the regions of Kazakh, Kazan and Juazzeiro. Few weeks of such a loss is way more than what they will receive from gaining ALL regions of the Islands (taking into account that the population can barely sustain a production of 1 – 20% per region and without considering monster attacks).

There are about 100 Troops from the five realms marauding the Islands. But how much the maintenance of such an army costs? If we assume that the average cost for a unit is about 4 gold per day then the whole army costs nearly 2800 gold per week! And to gain what? A bunch of reasons that will never actually return even a tiny proportion of what the true cost was.

We are not going with our economic analysis in depth calculating the costs in the long run if the Islands fall. A new colony won’t be able to found as the claims on the regions will stay for weeks. And an extremely strong army will have to stay at the Islands as even after the founding of this so important colony of theirs, the puppeteer nobles won’t be able to recruit sufficiently to protect themselves from the very common monster invasions.

But gold is not everything. So what is the morality of this war? Or we should better say farce? Well the establishment of the Colony of course!

But what kind of action is this? Destroy two sovereign realms to establish a colony? Or to replace the elected representative of the People? Especially when all the original colonists (counting about 10% in numbers of the nobles that now lives in the Islands)? And even more where everyone was invited to join the Island realms and vote whoever he or she likes?

Well dear readers… Something is wrong here. Something is very wrong. War for the sake of war…

Old Rancagua was ashamed but her constant failures, so she had to plea for help. Now it pays the wrong decisions of the past. Perdan urgently needed something to wipe out the bad memories of the war that was recently lost. Sirion and Fontan urgently needed an enemy in order to keep the internal order between unrestful nobles. And Itornut was so bored…

But only a look is enough for the educated to understand the complete lack of reasoning of this war.

The Papers Speaks the Truth
Ancient Claims over Rancagua's Lands Revealed

Three nobles of Avamar Selective, namely Amraedil, Bladesinger and Althea, have discovered some ancient papers that prove their ancestry and claims over the regions of Kazakh, Kazan and Juazzeiro respectively.

The brave Avamarians moved to their regions and claimed the lordship there. Although the people jubilantly accept them, soon the forces of Old Ranacgua’s militaristic realm (which by the way is slightly above Caligus in terms of military power now, despite the overwhelming support that receives from its masters) took over by force the three regions. However the claims remain.

As long as no Lord can be appointed the regions will suffer from low statistics, difficulties in maintenance, lack of the ability to build and halved tax income. It was a severe blow to Old Ranacgua’s economy inflicted by the three Avamarians. The economic cost of this action largely surpasses most war efforts made by Avamar Selective till now.

According to the above mentioned nobles, the reason they used this claims over the reasons now and not earlier is simply because they were tricked and believed King Dekion’s words about a fair and noble war. Of course Dekion was right. IF there had been a war then iit would have been a fair one. As long as this is merely a farce in order for some realms to have fun, then the statement doesn’t count.

As the Avamarians responded to this “We will reply to every ignoble and malicious effort made by our enemies in an equal way. And this applies also for Sirion, Fontan and Perdan”.

Adrian's List
A humorous attempt

Another rumour that reached our newspaper refers to another list made by some bored nobles that have nothing better to do. A death list which will be circulated to all puppets of Sirion in the continent and will dictate which nobles must be banned and executed. Although nothing better or a bit more original was expected from Sirion, what really impresses us is that Dekion, as a loyal servant of his great masters, dictated to the Rulers of other sovereign realms that ALL nobles from Avamar Selective AND Kalmar Islands should be hunted down and executed! He is so vigilant that he decided to condemn to death about 100 nobles! And so falsely proud that he is winning a petty farce that he thinks that he can dictate to the whole continent what to do!

Has he gone crazy upon realising the impact of the war on his Kingdom? Most probably yes. As it will take ages for Old Ranagua to recover, if ever, to its former status. Currently what only saves it, is that is surrounded by its masters. But if this ever change…woe on them!

Others suggest that Dekion only realised what the actual benefit would be if he had accepted the peace or alliance offer made by Kalmar Islands before Avamar Selective was born, or even after, concerning a federation of the Islands with Old Rancagua in a leading role. Instead of this key role, now Old Rancagua is forced to remain an underdeveloped realm that will constantly try to take care of its regions while protecting a handful of people living in the Islands.

He still insists on the moral issues though… What a pitty… The bloodiest wars have been made in the name of dignity and morality. In this case we are talking about a bloodbath, however the concept remains unchanged. Wrong political and military decisions concealed under a thin veil of nobility.

Annotation
A Briefing on the Political Situation in the People's Republic of Avamar

  • The long ennemies Itorunt and Perdan joined into alliance

  • The looting, pillaging and marauding of the Island continues normally. It will be a miracle if the population ever recover again. The utmost direspect to the locals have been shown by Old Rancagua's masters, Sirion and Fontan which constanly kill whatever it moves, no matter if it is man, woman, child, dog or cat.

  • Old Rancagua and Perdan joins into an alliance. Because all Perdan's old friends have either utterly destroyed or comletely crippled, the once vast realm joins whatever offer appears

  • A funny story reached our office just yesterday. The Perdanese leadership show its incompetence once again. In their unholy effort to capture all the priests of Gymnsistism that peacefully preaches in the Islands, they arrested their own priest that have travelled all the way to Venas to speak about their evil religion that only helps the militaristic plans of Perdan, hiding behind nice words for equality and protection of the weak.

  • A merciless hunt of men and woman that peacefully preach in the Islands is taking place. Perdan doesn't hesitate to arrest its own priests trying to turn the farce ("war" as they name it) to a religious hunt in an attempt to enforce their false religion that speaks about peace and justice and on teh other hand supports the greatest slaughtering the history of East Contninent has ever experienced

  • Doc Primus Said (taken from the comment on the Rampart Lion [1] ): "Perdan is indeed a mighty realm, which is precisely why she has to be weakened...being the root of not one continental war, but three. However, I find it amusing that you say Sirion/Fontan want Perdan destroyed..if Fontan/Sirion wanted Perdan dead, you'd already be dead. You have never faced the entire Sirion army, only half of it...we have rotations going so we always have fresh troops at the front to help Fontan hold the line (with the obvious risk that if we keep our full army at the front...when we go to resupply, Fontan would be alone for 2 weeks against Perdan). Now we could simply wait in Oligarch a WEEK for our entire army to mass up, and then you'd see what happens when Sirion wants a realm dead...you'd see a Colony TO in Perdan, and it would succeed because Sirion's mobile army would be about 25k, Fontan's would be about 20k and Perdan cannot dream to disrupt such an army...Sirion has wanted very few realms dead, and those that Sirion publicly declared would cease to exist for their numerous crimes against Humanity, are no longer with us...so watch your tongue before you anger the voices in Sirion in favor of keeping Perdan around and giving them a another chance. For some odd reason, people assume that because they have 'traditionaly' been pardoned for the same mistake in the past, it is their right for another pardon. That thinking is what gets problematic realms out of the present, and into the past."
  • Indirik said [2]: "50,000 CS army? Seems to me that you already tried that. What's with this god complex you've got going? "If we want someone dead, we kill them!" You've been trying for a few months now, and haven't managed to make it anywhere. The only thing that keeps this war going is that you refuse to let it go. You've been spewing your hatred of Perdan for so long it's driven you mad. Why can't you wrap your head around the fact that there are only about 5 people left on the island who care about those ancient wars? Get over it. Let it go."
  • Comment 1: Avamar Selective has ALREADY resisted together with her brothers and sister of Kalmar Islands an attack by 25k Sirionites, 20k Fontanese and 10k worthless Old Rancaguans. It only now got defeated when 50k CS of the Masters and their Slave attacked Avamar Selective ALONE, while more than 25k of Perdan and Itornut attacked Kalmar Islands. The most heroic battles ever took place in the continent. A true Athlos that will remain forever written in the hearts of those that took part in the glorious defence of the Islands against the massive force of 5 attacking realms. Something that will never be repeated, unless Ubent find itself in the same position.
  • Comment 2: Now Sirion and Fontan SHOULD HELP Old Rancagua because she was loosing a war against two tiny realms! And Perdan, ashamed by its former consequent defeats should do something to restore its pride. So it had chosen the weakest oponent. As Amreadil, Duke of Kazakh, noted to pinpoint the complete incompetence of OR: "I see THOUSANDS of angry Old Rancaguans storming our capital! How many are there? My Conan! More than 100 troops! Oh! I guess that the rest of the Continent must be truly terrorised by the mighty army of this realm! Indeed Old Rancagua is not capable even now to submit alone a realm WITHOUT RCs! Mighty Old RAncagua! Your enemies are trembling! And by the way...Congratulation to Sirion and Fontan. They managed to win another war, no matter how scarecly this slaughter resembled a war, but neverthelss they helped their minor not to be ridiculed again!". Not to question about this comment as the forces of Fontan and Sirion that took part in this war are about four times MORE than the Old Rancaguans! What a glorious historical achievement for Old Rancagua!
  • Comment 3: Although Indirik is willing to forget about the Ancient Wars of Perdan, he seems most enthusiastic NOT to forget the ancient rebellion in Kalmar Islands. And moreover, he seems truly devoted to the dogma himself few months ago accursed that: "If we want someone dead, we kill them". It seems that as Perdan survived, he already developed the "God Complex" Indirik, succesfully describes.
  • Comment 4: It is generally funny to read all these comments [3]. They really make you wonder about some people and how they change their minds when the situation they were facing not long ago is reversed.
  • Our newspaper wishes to thank all those around the continent that contacted us with messages of support. We all know here in Avamar Selective, that we are already victorious in the battlefield of morals. Let the criminals, cowards and incompetent celebrate the victory of theirs in the most ridiculus war East Continent has ever seen. What is important to us, is to know that all you, anonymous supporters of peace and justice, share the same dream with us. The dream of an East Continent free of the warhawks that suck the blood of the simple noble. Thank you!
