Molin is a bastard son of Lord Ara'Draug. Although the Ara'Draug family's home is in Skalk on Atamara, the old Lord travelled in his younger years. During a trip to Beluaterra he had a dalliance with the daughter of a blacksmith. Molin was the result.

Although he has taken the name of his father, he has never met any of the Ara'Draug family and indeed has no idea that he has noble blood. Being a commoner on Beluaterra he does not hear detailed news from Atamara.

Growing up in his grandfather's workshop, he was used to handling weapons. Although he started an apprenticeship as a blacksmith under his uncle it quickly became apparent that his fate wasn't to be a smith. When he came of age his mother gave him a sword which his father left for him, a finely made blade with a lion on the pommel. He then left home to carve out his own destiny and find his place in the world.

His career as an adventurer got off to a good start. He cut a swathe across Beluaterra killing monsters and undead as he went. Although his prowess in combat and his ability to single out the tougher and more rewarding enemies was advancing, it failed him in the end. Whilst exploring a territory ruled by the undead, he was captured and thrown into prison. Whilst in prison he was tortured and watched many of his co-prisoners being taken off to be eaten to provide sustenance for the undead. Fortunately his fighting experienec paid off; whilst he was being led out to be killed, he made a break for freedom. Incapacitating his jailer, he grabbed his fathers sword and his backpack from the holding area and managed to escape.

His time in the prison had given him time to think, and had reinforced his own mortality, of his spirit at least. He decided to find his father, although he had little to go on. He had the sword, and he knew his father was not from Beluaterra. Sending a message to his mother telling her of his plans, along with some money, he fell in with some refugees who were bound for the Far East. Maybe his father came from there.
