History

The O'Faolain family hails from Bbandasdor in the northwest reaches of Dwilight, though its origin is shrouded in mystery. The current head of the family, Niall MacAodh O'Faolain, traces his lineage back four generations to Lasair O'Faolain, the first of the family to step foot on the shores of Dwilight. However, no further accounts of Lasair now exist; not long after the birth of Lasair's only child, monsters swarmed the family homestead; of Lasair and his household, only the young Olcán survived. Olcán was rescued from the ruins by a fisherman from a village not far up the coast, who raised him as a son; the only identifying mark he carried, he wore around his neck: a ring bearing the iconic O'Faolain wolf's-head crest and engraved with the family name. This has since been passed down as a family treasure to the eldest son at his birth and is now carried by Eoghan MacNiall O'Faolain.

Overview

The O'Faolain family reclaimed its birthright by the hand of Niall MacAodh in Bbandasdor; like other nobles of that region, the O'Faolain family raises and breeds high-quality horses on its estate; however, the family has not forgotten its roots, and many members of the family feel drawn to the sea; it is not uncommon for the men of the family to choose to fish, rather than stay on at the family estate.

Notable Members

Niall MacAodh O'Faolain

Niall MacAodh is the patriarch of the O'Faolain family, and the one by whose hard work the O'Faolain family claimed its birthright and joined the ranks of nobility. He resides at the family estate and oversees the ranch. He has three sons: the eldest Eoghan, Oilithir, and the youngest Ronan. He also has two young daughters, the elder Treasa, and the younger Geileis.

Eoghan MacNiall O'Faolain

Eoghan MacNiall is the first son of Niall MacAodh, and is the first O'Faolain to leave the family estate to swear fealty to a lord and become a knight. He is also the first O'Faolain to be appointed to a military leadership position, and the only current O'Faolain Hero.

Eoghan is of above-average height, fair of complexsion, and has a lean, muscular build. His hair, which he keeps long and tied back in a ponytail, is black and his sharp eyes are green. He is of calm demeanor, though in combat this gives way to a ferocity more often seen in wolves than in men. He trains specifically with the longsword and rides the steed Razormane, a white horse whose grey mane seems to blend together into a solid blade at a gallop, gifted to him by his aunt when he left for Astrum. Eoghan is also a devoted follower of Sanguis Astroism.

He joined Niselur during the Fell Winter, becoming a knight of Raden before its loss. He then swore fealty to Black Wolf, Lord of Under Darfix. During the fierce fighting to protect what remained of Niselur, Eoghan was deeply moved by a group of peasants who threw themselves against the undead hordes to protects their kin just as the armies of Niselur arrived; on that day he chose to follow the path of the hero, leading his men from the head of the charge. On another day of fighting, Eoghan saw the High Paladin Turin wounded and fought to his side, driving off the remaining undead; within days, he was promoted to Vice Marshall of the Silver Paladins, a position he strove to exceed at.

When the call was sent out for volunteers to seek aid in Astrum, Eoghan was reluctant to volunteer. However, seeing that there were few others, and understanding that without Astrum's aid Niselur would certainly fall, he volunteered for the mission despite his reservations. It was with great sadness that he learned that the expedition had left too late; Niselur was overrun within weeks of his arrival in Astrum, and the last nobles were forced to abandon the Golden City. He strives now to return Niselur to its rightful state.

Eoghan is a member of the Blades of the Exiles, a special army created for the reclamation of Niselur; for his devotion to the cause he has been appointed Count of Jorradith, in the budding Duchy of Gaston.

Oilithir MacNiall O'Faolain

Oilithir is the second son of Niall MacAodh; as a young man he felt drawn to the sea and spent more time aboard his personal fishing vessel than at the family estate. He is tall, but more muscular than his elder brother, Eoghan. They share similar green eyes and black hair, but unlike his brother, he keeps it cropped short. Oilithir captains the Pilgrim's Caprice, from which he lead a small flotilla of five other fishing ships, dubbed the "Psaras Expedition", across the sea to Atamara, seeking his fortune. He came ashore in Werdham in the nation of Suville, and shortly thereafter swore fealty to the local lord. He and his Psaras journeyed with their caravans, looking to make a fortune as a trader.

Finding no food for sale in his travels, his men became frustrated with being so far from home and deserted him for parts unknown. Dejected and alone, Oilithir returned to Suville to live at his estate, quietly helping to maintain Werdham. Growing bored with the climate, he set sail again on the Pilgrim's Caprice, bound for Beluaterra. He is now a member of Old Grehk, fighting the good fight against the ever-encroaching Undead hordes.
