The Southern alliance were quickly able to storm the walls but it was the late cavalry charge of Sirion and Caligus which succeeded throwing back the attackers from the walls and giving a victory to Caligus and Sirion. Over 80 siege engines were used and caused considerable damage to the walls reducing them by one level.
