Communionism

Communionism is a new religion based on an old custom - namely, that of Communion with otherworldly spirits, usu. through the directed use of ikrif. The custom originates in the southlands of the Far East, where the plant itself naturally grows.

The temple is small and constructed of wood. It rests on a hill nearly on the outskirts of the city, and is rather plain compared to most other temples of the city. The Priests of Communionism, too, do not dress unusually, as they mill about casually.

Inside, the space is plain and the floorboards form an interesting, but not ornate, pattern. There are no statues, of gods or men, to be seen. Scribes, as if in an academy, carefully write on scrolls, some of which hang on the farthest wall. Other followers seem to meditate over light meals, sitting peacefully, seemingly oblivious to the outside world.

One might never guess, from appearances, that the Priests of this religion Commune with the Spirits of the Dead. And yet, you hear from passers-by in hushed voices that that is exactly what they do...

Beliefs

The religion so far is non-theistic, neither worshipping nor denying any specific gods, and is very personalized, offering a differing paradigm to each person.

A reliance on experienced priests as guides is a key factor in differentiating between ordinary hallucinations induced by a drug (as with recreational use) from genuine Communion with otherworldly spirits.
