The area currently called Toren has long been inhabited by a people indigenous to the South East Island. These people have long been known as rough warriors, and were previously absorbed into other realms. When the gods reset the island however, something was different and these people surrounding the great city of Toren Stronghold began to claim a common identity.

What set off this common identity was the revelation of Tor. A young knight was on his way traveling to the city in search of guidance from his mentor, when on the main road he saw an odd mound of dirt. Curious, the knight stepped off his horse and began pawing at the ground, trying to find what was under the mound. As the dirt was brushed away, he discovered it was a container that had a set of very old scrolls inside.

One of the scrolls appeared older than the others. Opening it, the young knight found that the scroll was written in a very archaic language, reminiscent of the ancient languages spoken on the South East Island before recorded history. Most people on the island would never be able to read this language, but this knight had a talent for languages, able himself to speak several without being taught.

The section of the scroll that looked most familiar read as follows:

Tor-b
Es ka b sh-newt’tesan-i gezusakant-gezusakant-ha. Kar-i het aito! m-Hab-i gezusakant-gezusakant! Kargnch-i het gezusakant-gezusakant, bah-anto-i. Tor newt’tesan-I. Bah-ansto, m-s’malantnun.

Puzzled by this language, the knight took the scrolls into Toren Stronghold, staying at a local inn. He wrote his mentor, asking him to join him - and the two spent weeks deciphering it. After a great deal of struggling with the translation, the two men could do no better than the following:

+
''Tor people
Land's people holy this to be you and you. To fight at I! Will to god you and you. To ruler at you and you, no to sand. Not sand, will win.''

94 days after it's creation (Sep. 1 2004), a great event occured. The Mentor Karibash deciphered a scroll he encountered. It was the word of almighty Tor. Unfortunately, this was later revealed as heresy, a fraudulant scroll.

Clearly, the translation was extremely poor, and the two men nearly gave up. But they recognized that this scroll was not simply an ordinary one, and for their own intellectual satisfaction they had to find the answers.

While Karibash wanders through ancient stores of scrolls, he comes across a scroll that seems much older than the others. Opening it, Karibash is shocked at what he finds. A scroll written in some archaic language, and not in familiar characters. At the bottom of the scroll is some sort of legend equating a character to a letter he knows. After days of carefully examining each character, he pulls out a crisp, new piece of parchment and writes what he has found, then reads it aloud.

Desperate, they traveled to Atamara to seek the advice of the more learned peoples that resided there. After much searching, they found a group of priests that had maintained a written record of languages spoken in the known world throughout the past hundred centuries. After consultation, the knight and his mentor, with the priest's help were able to accurately translate the scrolls contents:

Tor-b
Es ka b sh-newt’tesan-i gezusakant-gezusakant-ha. Kar-i het aito! m-Hab-i gezusakant-gezusakant! Kargnch-i Phear-Kargnch het gezusakant-gezusakant, bah-anto-i. Tor newt’tesan-I Widfara-hab. Bah-ansto, m-s’malantnun.

''People of Tor,
+
You are the land's enlightened. Fight for me! All shall be blessed. You will be lead by a Pontifex who will guide you in spiritual matters. Worship me, and victory shall be yours for all of eternity - spurn me, and you shall see nothing but defeat.''

Puzzled by this language, Karibash spends weeks deciphering it. Seeing that he was getting nowhere, Karibash is about to return the scroll when inspiration strikes him. Spending the next few days cracking the language, Karibash comes with a rough copy of the text.
+
Overjoyed at what they had deciphered, the knight ordered the priest to decipher the rest of the scrolls. What followed amounted to the canonical texts of the people of Tor, their holy text that would outline their status as the South East Islands chosen people, and the nobility of their lives, in worship of Tor.

Tor people
Land's people holy this to be you and you. To fight at I! Will to god you and you. To ruler Phear ruler at you and you, no to sand. Peace to be Widfara holy. Not sand, will win.
+
Once the scrolls were completely translated, the knight and his mentor traveled back to Toren Stronghold, and announced their findings to the people both there, and the surrounding regions.

Angered at the quality of this translation, Karibash puts it aside. Late one night, while trying to improve the translation, he watches a fly flying and a concept strikes him. Knowing now what it is, Karibash pens the final translation.

As such, the realm of Toren was born.

Followers
You are the land's enlightened. Fight for me! All shall be blessed. Pontifex Phear leads you, don't forget. Prophet Widfara is safe. Don't be scared, victory shall come.

In ecstasy, Karibash bursts out of his tent shouting that he has Tor's word in his hand

Toren is a theocracy, set in the centre of the South-East Island, where the gods rage. It lies between the realms of Taselak in the west and Sandalak in the east, with Ikalak bordering it to the north. The capital is Toren Stronghold, a fortress in the mountains north of the mystic Cave of Guilt.

History

Tor people
Land's people holy this to be you and you. To fight at I! Will to god you and you. To ruler at you and you, no to sand. Not sand, will win.

Clearly, the translation was extremely poor, and the two men nearly gave up. But they recognized that this scroll was not simply an ordinary one, and for their own intellectual satisfaction they had to find the answers.

Overjoyed at what they had deciphered, the knight ordered the priest to decipher the rest of the scrolls. What followed amounted to the canonical texts of the people of Tor, their holy text that would outline their status as the South East Islands chosen people, and the nobility of their lives, in worship of Tor.

Once the scrolls were completely translated, the knight and his mentor traveled back to Toren Stronghold, and announced their findings to the people both there, and the surrounding regions.

As such, the realm of Toren was born.
