If it weren't for the different colours the men wore on their armour, and the self-important gait slightly more exaggerated than that usually seen in fighting men, the forty-four making their way down the main streets of Partora wouldn't have drawn any more attention than any other nobleman's body of soldiers.

On one side of the column, the standard-bearer bore the yellow-and-purple banner of the southern Empire, on the other the private ensign of the House of Vincent. The colours they wore were that of the Drantin, the Vincent's household phalanx. In the centre, flanked on both sides by the soldiers, stood a single man, wearing chainmail over doublet and no form of adornment save a heavy dark green cloak, and appearing perhaps a little self-conscious at the attention on him caused by his troops.

"Make way for his Imperial Majesty, Lucian of Itorunt," the heralds cried, parting the crowds with voice alone.

Trumpets blared over the top of the noisy throne room, hushing everyone for the announcement that followed.

"Presenting his Imperial Majesty, Lucian of Itorunt" the guard shouted.

Some murmurs of surprise as the senators and stewards looked at one another and towards the entrance expectantly.

The King walked through the doorway, accompanied on either side by attendents and his royal standard bearer. Although he accepted all the pomp and ceremony graciously, it could be seen that he was a man of battle and would be more comfortable leading armies than dealing with politicians.

Queen Evangeline rose to meet the King and inclined her head slightly as they faced one another,

"Welcome to Partora and the Kingdom of Perdan King Lucian. It will be ensured that your stay in Partora is a comfortable one and you are welcome to stay as long as you desire."
