Nursing three separate wounds the Emperor remained in Kell as the readied warriors pursued the fleeing Revenites. He was mightily proud of all the Vales forces but could not avoid finding some of the war songs rather crude and it reminded him of the poetry passage from yesterday. Hearing the cavalry knight Brondold was departing he sent a servant to catch him with a small piece of parchment inscribed with the verse:

Reven to the right of them, Reven to the left of them, Reven in front of them Volleyed and thundered; Stormed at with blade and quarr-el, While horse and hero fell, They that fought so well, Came thro' the jaws of Death, Back from the mouth of Hell, All that was left of them, Left of the Gilded Sun.

The servant was dispatched with a few extra copies but finding most of the nobles preoccupied resorted to handing them out to sergeants. One buck-toothed sergeant received the note with genuine enthusiasm. The man at arms paused to allow the servant to depart before heading towards the latrines humming one of Arjan or Leif’s fighting songs to himself, ready to put the soft parchment to good use…
