Template talk:FamilyLink

I don't think this template serves a good purpose. There are way too many people who don't have a region page, which will result in lots of red links. Then there are several different naming schemes. And all properties for character names are string properties - for these reasons.

Yes, it would be nice to have, but I don't think it will work even remotely as well as the regions things.

True. I'll look at coding in an "if exists" type check using parser functions. i.e. Only show a link to the family page if it exists. I forget the exact function, but I know there is one. --Indirik 03:12, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
OK, I added a check to see if the family page exists. If it does not, then the output of the template is the unlinked concatenation of the character's first and last names. That will take care of the red link issue. See Template:FamilyLink/Examples. For an implementation in a full template: Template:RealmBox/Examples. If the I honestly don't know how much all this checking costs in terms of system resources. If the cost is too high. Let me know and I'll yank the templates. Or if the region or realm data is changed to export the family name, this can also be disabled or easily reprogrammed to work with that. --Indirik 13:20, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
