You know, this is pretty creepy. --The Scipii Family 18:17, 3 March 2011 (CET)

He is correct in a few things:
  • Most of his characters are hated.
  • Sitting around doing nothing is boring. It has killed, or nearly killed, several realms.
For just about everything else, he's pretty much wrong.

I'm of the mind that there is no "correct" definition of fun. Some people might not see any problem with joining a realm and getting it to do suicidal things. I recall replying in-character a while back and saying "why would we fight a war that we can't possibly win". The real answer is because it's more fun for some people, at least from a player viewpoint. I might disagree with some details -- clearly the fastest way to kill a realm is to poke the giant realm next door, as I'm now witnessing. But there certainly are some good points... a realm will slowly die if nothing ever happens.
I think it would have been possible to keep things interesting without running ahead into the arms of the 800 pound gorilla (and some were proposed), but that's all kind of secondary now. Based on talk in the forums the invading armies are having fun, so that's good ;-)
Either way, I archived this here to remind myself exactly of this. -- Corwyn 23:13, 3 March 2011 (CET)
The fact some of my characters are hated (Mostly Haruka and Xaphan I would imagine, since no one really knows the new Reston, or Druhtinaz, and Tonkotsu was liked enough) I guess is pretty much an all round compliment, since its an extolment to all the effort I put in, though, most of the haters don't actually seem to pay attention to my roleplays, judging by half the stuff they say. But back to the point, I find it weird that you put only my OOC's on your page, and not any of the other OOC's, or the messages that sparked me to send the messages in the first place... I would say much of the hate really is not at the characters, but at the player for the perceptions of how things were handled in Dwilight, least that has been my experience with those I have talked to. Corwyn the trick with keeping wars fun, is to provoke the enemy enough to get a fun war, without provoking them so far that the goal becomes annihilation. This time round that didn't work out, but hopefully the proposed new realm on the Dark Isle will also be a unique and fun place to play, just different to those things that made Arcachon unique and fun. --Masdus 00:38, 4 March 2011 (CET)

There is a very large hatred of Haruka in all SA realms on Dwilight. (I personally don't know who Xaphan is/was, so I can't say who does/doesn't like that character.) But that hatred is not OOC. It is all based on Haruka's IC actions. But then again, it is very easy to generate hate against one of your characters. It's probably, by far, the easiest thing to do in the game. So I don't count getting a lot of people to hate your characters as a very big accomplishment. Just keep sending insulting messages and clicking those Torture links, and you'll rise quickly to the top of the list. It especially helps if you send RPs to everyone with intricate details of how the torture was done.
@Masdus: You're right. It's difficult to generate just the right amount of hatred to get a good war, without going too far and getting everyone dedicated to wiping you out. Very hard to do when your realm is surrounded by potential enemies. You also have to be careful that what you do to spark that war doesn't paint you as the villain toward the other around you that may otherwise be neutrals. That's what happened with Arcachon and OW. Arcachon was seen to be breaking treaties, and disregarding various agreements, casting them, in OW's eyes, as untrustworthy.
@Corwyn: I agree that fun is different for different people. I don't like realms that have a lot of internal strife and power struggles. I prefer to cooperate with people against external enemies. Other people flourish in realms where there is a lot of backstabbing and fighting for power. That's not for me.
