You!

You are a noble of a realm. And you should be grateful for that you complete and utter waste of space. No one thinks of you as anything more than a pawn being moved around a chess board. As a pawn you will be thrown head first into battles, dungeons, and the dirt to ensure the more important pieces don't have leave the back row. Don't worry though, your piece can't be removed from the board unless you want it to. The worst thing that can, and will happen, is that you will be sent back to the second row to repeat the entire process over again forever. But for those who are looking for something a little less analogical,

All you need know is that you have three primary functions. First and perhaps most obvious, fight for your realm. You must defend your realm to ensure those who are in power can continue their never ending quest of making sure you don't get any of their positions. Of course, if they could, they would defend the realms themselves, however due to economics of scale and diminishing returns this is not possible.

Second function you serve, the managing of regional estates. Indeed, lords consider this the most terrible aspect of their job: giving away gold for nothing. Nothing? Yes, your service to them means very little, all they care about is you maintaining their region. And while you may think over time they may increase the amount of gold they grant you, they are interested in the exact opposite and will waste no time breaking off their oath agreement with you to save one gold a week. If you find yourself in a realm whose regional lords require no more knights for regional maintenance prepare yourself to receive five gold a taxday or less.

Third and final function, re-elect the current ruling council.
