Details
He started his career in D'Hara in the new lands of Dwilight. He is a devout member of the Church of the Allfather and had aspirations to spreading the faith in Dwilight when he had the power to do so. Indeed the Duke of Paisly pledged to help him spread the faith in the duchy of Paisly before it was lost. He is also a sworn enemy of Terran due to their repeated insults towards his queen and his realm.
His strong belief in knightly conduct and behaviour worthy of nobles sometimes brings him into conflict with his contempories. One of these is 'Black' Bowie Ironsides whom Asriel duelled to the surrender in Port Raviel. After a series of blows righteousness prevailed and Asriel triumped over his foe.
Account of the Duel between Black Bowie and Asriel Octavius
After the duel Black Bowie and Sir Asriel have reached a mutual tolerance if not respect, even though they try to avoid being in the same place at the same time as much as possible. Indeed Asriel came to like the excitement which Bowie injects into what can otherwise be boring and staid debates.
After his good friend Mathias disapeared and returned, apparently partially possesed by an evil spirit, Asriel revealed his faith publicly so that he might be permitted to try and help Mathias. This has earnt him the dislike of some of the followers of the Way of the Dragons.
After Mathias' recovery, Asriel served as one of Mathias' knights before Mathias went into self exile after a dispute with Queen Katayanna. During this period, and the time of peace before the Dragon Revolution, Asriel discovered that he had a hero's soul and was hailed as one. He also found that he had some skill as a courtier and spent much time in overseeing clerks and helping the development of D'Hara's regions.
During D'Hara's Dragon Revolution he fought with the forces that ultimately succeded in the overthrow of Dragon Queen Katayanna and her replacement with Dragon King Cenarious. At the same time he remained a part of the colony group whose existence had been one of the triggers for the Dragon Revolution and he still intended to join them in founding Asylon in the immediate future.
During the period following the Dragon Revolution, Asriel became a member of the newly formed Western Guard as well as a vocal member of the Foreign Affairs and Military Councils. Later he was appointed to the position of Second-in-Command of the Western Guard and has discovered that he has some knowledge of strategy, though his knowledge of battlefield tactics remains untested.
He then travelled to Caerywn where he joined the colony effort to establish Asylon. Unfortunately the plans came to naught and, after repeated delays, he followed a strange impulse and he travelled to Melhed in the lands of Beluaterra where he amassed a substantial fortune. But after a short while he realised that Melhed was sunk deep into a slow process of decay and disintegration so he returned to D'Hara shortly afterwards.
He returned to a land much changed and flung himself heavily into the war against Madina. He also took the opportunity to relocate the family home to Port Nebel, much to the irritation of his brother. Whilst there he wrote a history of the War for Paisly as well as part of a treatise on D'Hara's war with Ordenstaat.
But after a dispute with King Cenarious and the death of a friend of his he travelled to Aquilegia at the invitation of Bowie. There he was appointed marshal and spent most of his time fighting the monsters on Aquilegia's western flank. However, over time he became enraged by the incompetence of the ruler as well as the theocratic nature of the state. As a result he played a key part in three rebellions in Aquilegia (all within the space of a week) and held the throne himself for twelve hours. After it became clear that victory was impossible he retired to the family estate where he is raising his illegitimate son to be his heir.
