"When will they learn!" Connaver roared his frustration into the empty Courtroom, his voice echoing off the empty walls. "By all the Gods, I've hung dozens of the bastards, Imprisoned hundreds more, raided their meetings, captured their leaders and had them put to the sword, and still they defy me!"

Johann clapped his hands, the sound booming, echoing, through the empty hall. "To be fair, you Imprisoned men from a Penal Colony. Hardly what I'd call punishment."

"This is not the time," Conn hissed, feeling his face flush red with anger. "Almost an entire weeks worth of effort, and still I can't even hold Court in my own damned region!" He marched to the window, and stared out at the chaos outside. The throng was pressing against the line of Cavalrymen, trying fruitlessly to break them, pelting them with rocks and refuse. "We'll have to pull back to Semall to refit, soon. The men are exhausted. Nearly a month of continuous operations. I've lost six men, and haven't even killed a single Ibladesh soldier, and while I fear if I do not leave my unit will eat itself, I also fear that if I do leave I will not have a region to come back to!" He wheeled on Johann. "My position as Lord will not be marked with the same failures my career as a Knight have been!"

Johann shrugged. "I had the same problem when I was the Duke of Chaos Temple. It passed there, it'll pass here."

"That's all you have to say?"

Another shrug. "Not much else to say, nephew. Except that it was fun hanging those uppity rebel bastards."

"You're a cruel man, Johann Hynes."

"Yes, and I was a Count and a Duke. You realize, now, why I am the way I am; Because it is all those unwashed barbarians out there understand. Doubly so because they're criminals, cutthroats and con-men. Alas, that is the curse of nobility. I will tell you one thing, though, and that's when we get this region under total control, those same men that you've imprisoned will be some of the best Soldiers Itorunt has ever seen! Now, come, let us drink to your Lordship of the dirty sandstone rock of Itorunt, however long it may last. I'll handle getting the men in order to move out tomorrow morning."
