Artemis is the baby boy of the original Fowl family. His father never really felt close to him, being preoccupied with the first two boys. As such, his mother is the closer parent for Artemis. Growing up ignored by his father and brothers, while being groomed constantly by his mother has made Artemis very emotional and moody. He feels that everything is his fault and that he is responsible for setting things right. In one word, Artemis is a romantic.

Not long after his 17th birthday, Artemis met his friend Jared and asked him where to find the most loyal recruits in Osaliel. Jared then led Artemis to an underground rebellion meeting which Jared and a group of loyal men had infiltrated. Upon a signal from Jared, the men slaughtered the rebels and all the survivors formed Artemis's new troop. The left for Atamara the next day. Only his mother came to see them off. Upon arrival in his new realm of the Ash Sea Islands, Artemis made quick friends and soon was helping out with daily affairs.

On one mission, Artemis and his troop were to defend the region of Jauchu from maruading monsters. In this mission, Jared was brutally killed and Artemis had a break down. After some time, Artemis recovered mentally and gave his men a gift, a green bandana with the names of the men lost at Jauchu embroidered on it by hand. Now his entire troop bears a green bandana over their left shoulder with the names of their fellows sewn on. All but Henson, the new second in command, that is. He wears his upon his chestplate displaying the monster emblazened upon it.

Artemis also seems to have a romantic side as well, though it be a shy one. He often makes small gestures of friendship towards the more prominent ladies of his realm. Though he has of yet to be taken seriously.

Lastly, Artemis was wounded in a competition to find the best sword in the Ajan army. When he recovered, he seemed a little more confident. Only time will tell if he is hardening himself.

Artemis lost most of the ~A~Ruffians on the operation to save Kybycell by ASI's army. Only three survived. The three were Henson, Traunt and Royen. The former becoming the Lt of the reformed ruffians and the latter two the sergeants. The Sgts each have a blade that is the pair of the other. Royen's is the left handed blade, named Ruthless, and Traunt's is the right handed blade, named Bittersweet. Artemis himself is obtaining a new weapons set now that he has accepted the mantle of Hero. He has purchased a pair of twin scimitars with black leather grips and scabbards. The left hand named Shepherd and the right hand named Guillotine. Shepherd has a blue sheen and Guillotine gives off a reddish glow.

Lastly, Artemis is involved in a growing relationship with Lady Elfabah, an outcast from Abington, who fled for her life from their evil ways. Over time, he is growing more and more fond of her.

Artemis received a grissly pendant from the Lady Elfabah. It is a small necklace made of her hair and fingernails wrapped around the heart of a small animal. He keeps it in a newly fashioned chest when not in battle. The chest has the Fowl Family crest upon its lid. The hinges are silver. On the sides of the box are chronicled the four main events of Artemis' life thus far. The failed rebellion in Osaliel, the monsters at Jauchu, the mule massacre, and the stand at Wayburg. Within the box, a beutiful rendering of Lady Elfabah resides.

Lady Elfabah is going away to the Far East, to the realm of Nighthelm. Her mission is to prevent the murder of a man who she owes much to. Artemis mourns her absence, but awaits her return. He tells her to look for his brothers on the continent. He also sends letters telling the brothers to watch for her appearance, and to protect her from harm.

Before a military operation which penetrated Abington lands, Artemis met up with Xanio and with Artemis on drums, they made some music. He left the drums with a family in the islands before continuing on with the army. In the following battle, Artemis lost all of his friends to Abbington warriors. Henson, Traunt and Royen all fell in a battle on the Abbington side of the Islands. In a battle Artemis didn't even participate in. He was felled by an arrow early on in the battle and carried away. Not long after the death of his friends, Artemis was kidnapped and sent to sea. He became conscious again in the middle of the ocean and silently took out his guards until facing a small group in pitched battle. Not long after this, he payed his way back to Atatamara and rejoined ASI and his leige Duke Moses, no longer in Aja, but Wor'ight. Artemis sent the following letter to his friends in the Ash Sea Islands:

Ladies and Gentlemen,

As most of you no doubt know, I was here serving ASI until one day, about four weeks ago, I vanished. I'm sure you all wish to know the circumstances of such a dissapearance. I will tell you what I know.

Firstly, I was kidnapped from my tent, where I was brooding over the death toll. I had lost my friends. All of my friends. The next thing I knew, I was on a ship with no land in sight. From snatches of conversation I overheard, I gathered that I was taken in the night and stuffed aboard a slavers ship in the port of Ash'rily. Evidently, they didn't believe I would survive, so they actually got less money than they originally wanted. So it was not for almost three days that I woke up and felt good enough to do something. Luckily for me, they thought I would be incapacitated far longer, and did not take sufficient steps to secure me. I took out the crew one and two at a time until I had left a skeleton crew sailing the ship. Only providence allowed me to do so without raising an alarm. Unfortunately at this time, they rose up in defense and I was forced to fight. Lacking my swords Shepherd and Guillotine, I was left to fight with a saxe. It took all I had to just block the blows aimed my way. However, the great sea rose up at one point, knocking all on deck to the ground. One or two men went over the side at this time. Two more broke their legs. That left the captain and myself to finish our fight. I was more winded than I've been in a long time, and the captain nearly decapitated me with his sweeping slash. Once more, I was saved by fate as my ankle was swept from under me by a piece of rigging and the captain knocked overboard by the falling mast. Needless to say, the boat and myself were in no shape to be sailing in any controlled manner. Two days later, a merchant ship came upon me on the open sea and they made repairs to the ship, tossed the dead overboard and sailed both ships into a port on Beluaterra. In payment, I gave them the ship which they insisted belonged to me after the battle. In due course, I returned here to help finish what we had started with Abbington.

Artemis has given up hope on Elfabah and perhaps even love itself. He no longer feels the deep and fragile emotions he once had. Now he thinks things over more practically and has even become a touch sadistic in some matters. Currently, he is advocating the idea of a council of nations on Atamara.

Remembering the ring of the House of Vashmere which Elfabah had given to the Fowl Family in secret, Artemis recently bartered for the release of Elfabah from the tyranical Dafayo Vashmere. He had a large arguement with Dafayo before remembering the ring. In the exchange, Artemis lost his scribe and the ring. The Lady Elfabah would have to serve as Artemis's scribe for some time before he could hire a new one.
