Heliacal Wassgandr Felsenbach stood at the helm of the Ascendants, his unit of 172 archers, as they prepared to face off against the monsters. The dawn was just breaking, and the sky was a mix of oranges and pinks.

But there was no beauty in this scene for Wassgandr, only the looming threat of 38 monsters, three times stronger than his unit, and heavily damaged equipment.

He clutched the Lance of Victory tightly in his hand, the Scorching Pendant on his chest, and the Singing Manual in the other. He knew that this battle would be a test of the Ascendants' strength, courage and determination.

The monsters charged towards the Ascendants, their roar echoing across the battlefield. Wassgandr's heart raced as he shouted the order for his men to loose their arrows.

The Ascendants' arrows rained down upon the monsters, but their numbers seemed endless. Despite their best efforts, the monsters broke through their lines, and the battle turned into a brutal melee.

Wassgandr fought with all his might, his Lance of Victory striking true against the monsters. But the Ascendants were outnumbered and outmatched. They managed to kill 21 monsters out of 38, but at a heavy cost. 48 of his men lay dead on the battlefield.

It was then that Wassgandr knew that they had to retreat. He gave the order, and the Ascendants pulled back, falling back in formation as they retreated. But the monsters were not done yet, they continued to pursue them, even as they retreated.

The retreat was a desperate, bloody fight. 12 more of his men were killed and eaten by the monsters. But they were able to make it out alive, and regrouped to safety.

Wassgandr felt the weight of the loss heavy on his shoulders. He knew that he had to honor the sacrifice of his men, by surviving and fighting on.

He turned to his surviving men, their faces etched with determination and grief. "Ascendants, we have lost too many of our own. But we must honor their sacrifice by surviving and fighting on. We will regroup and come back stronger than ever. We will avenge our fallen brothers and sisters."

The Ascendants nodded, their eyes hardening with resolve. They knew that their Heliacal was right, and they would follow him to the end.

As they retreated, Wassgandr could not help but think of the men he had lost. He knew that they had died for a noble cause, and he would make sure that their sacrifice was not in vain. He would make sure that their deaths were avenged. With this thought in mind, Heliacal Wassgandr led his men to safety, determined to come back and defeat the monsters once and for all.
