Air Element

A Study Maker of the Air Element will be required to learn the practical uses, the rituals and the theories of this element and take the Second Grade Test in order to become a Master Elementalis.

Uses:

  • As the Air Element is not a concrete substance, it is primarily a ritual and theoretical Element.
  • A ritual of this element, in conjunction with a Fire Element ritual, comprises the Elementalis Death Rites.

Rituals:

  • Ritual of Vital: An Air Elementalis performs this ritual on newborn babies at the beginning of its life. It is to celebrate the child’s first breath and to bless the child to have many breaths, hoping it a long life.
  • Ritual of Exhale: An Air Elementalis Journeyman performs this ritual at the moment of a person’s death. This is a ritual done to respect and commemorate the dying last breath. The final exhale is collected into a special decorated container and kept by the deceased’s family as a memento. Much like the function of an urn except instead of a container for ashes it is to contain breath. This is an important ritual in the Elementalis Death Rites. Once the Air Elementalis has collected the last breath, a Fire Elementalis will place the corpse on a funeral pyre and allow the divinities to consume it through fire.

Theories:

  • Theory of Circulation: Sage Bundula based off observations from her teacher Sage Sheerrun Taph. Tenant: Air that enters is not the Air that exits, but exits sometime later.
  • Theory of Air Revivification: Sage Woismusth, School of Esoteric Respiration founded by Sage Zisander. Possibility of giving life through mastery of the Air Element.
  • Theory of Transportation By Means of the Air Element: First found in a recorded event documenting an Unknown Elementalis, Sage Dedalorr’s Levitation Elixir, and School of Great Heights founded by Sages Elima and Jorinda. Possibility of using the Air Element for transportation, either to fly or in other means.

Water Element

A Study Maker of the Water Element will be required to learn the practical uses, the rituals and the theories of this element and take the Second Grade Test in order to become a Master Elementalis.

Uses:

  • Water is used for a great many things, from mundane to arcane. Both Elementalis and non-Elementalis are familiar with the Water Element and its properties, and it is the most popular element to study.
  • Besides the typical, Water is used in many rituals of purification, and transformation.

Rituals:

  • Ritual of Bathing: A Water Elementalis would use water at the right temperature to remove Earth and other non-bodily substances from their person. This ritual is predominant in those who follow the Principle of Hygiene, which is a minority group.
  • Ritual of Wet Purity: A Water Elementalis would consecrate newly created structures and objects with Water before their use. Used only for things that will be in regular contact with humans, such as doorways, wagons, tools, weapons, wells, etc.,; but not roofs, fences, anything made from concrete, etc.,. The general rule is if it is something made for regular use by human hands, then you must consecrate it; if it is built and then left stationary then consecration is not needed.
  • Ritual of From One to Another: A Water Elementalis recognizes the transformative aspects of the Water Element and so has devised a ritual which uses water during cooking, training, construction, etc., believing that the presence of water and its application to the subject will aid in whatever task the person is pursuing. For example, during training, the dousing of the body in water is said to transform the person from very warm to very cool and allow them to continue training with more vitality. Another example, for Earth Elementalis who wish to build a garden, by using this ritual daily, they aid in the transformation of the seed into the plant.

Theories:

  • Theory of Water as the Transformer Element: Developed by Sage Cer, who noticed how Water would somehow affect any element or object it contacted.
  • Principle of Hygiene: Not a very popular aspect of the school in which it was formed. Master Quanvidas stated Water could be used for personal and public hygiene as well as for cleaning living and work spaces.

Fire Element

A Study Maker of the Fire Element will be required to learn the practical uses, the rituals and the theories of this element and take the Second Grade Test in order to become a Master Elementalis.

Uses:

  • The Fire Element is predominantly used for cooking, illumination and in ritual purifications. It is also used by Earth Elementalis for land clearing to regain the nutrients in the soil.
  • A ritual of this Element, in conjunction with an Air Element ritual, comprises the Elementalis Death Rites.
  • The Fire Handlers, a branch within the School founded by Sage Troipides, have learned to use Fire in many different ways based from the teachings of the Salamander to Sage Claridon. They are said to be the best cooks, and the handiest people to have when a fire rages out of control.

Rituals:

  • Ritual of Divine Consumption: A Fire Elementalis is able to feed the divinities by placing the foodstuffs in a fire pit. The divinity then consumes the offering by the agency of the Fire. This is an important ritual in the Elementalis Death Rites. After an Air Elementalis has collected the last breath of the deceased, the corpse is then offered for divine consumption on a funeral pyre.
  • Ritual of Incredible Purity: A Fire Elementalis will hover a small torch near an impure object and by the heat produced will purify it. This is also done on impure people, though with obvious attention to safety.

Theories:

  • Theory of Untouchable Inheritance: Follows the studies of Sage Onophraeon and the School of the Fire Element founded by Sage Poseias of Krimml. This theory holds that Fire is a pure element, incorruptible and vital for physical and spiritual purity, and that it is even greater than the Water Element in these regards.
  • Protocols of the Fire Handlers: These are the safety instructions developed for proper care and usage of the Fire Element in practical situations. The School of the Fire Element founded by Sage Troipides of Sir Temple is the home to this sect, and they practice the teachings of Sage Claridon, as given by the Salamander. A Fire Handler is often requested to reside in a city or a major village to use their skills in the event a fire breaks out.

Rituals:

  • There is not a great deal of rituals associated with the Earth Element, as it is considered a very practical Element.

Theories:

  • Theories of Architecture: Sage Forpot first studied the uses of the Earth Element to create structures and developed many techniques used by architects and engineers, who are all Earth Elementalis.
  • The School of the Earth Element founded by Sage Yunset educates the Earth Elementalis in many fields, and the theoreticians research the life giving properties of the Earth Element, as well as study the dead material to further understand the transition from life to death and the nature of being dead. There has yet to be any significant theories developed for this area. The school also gives the opportunity for research in health areas, such as discovery of new herbs and basic medicines, making an Earth Elementalis a skilled healer.
