The Virtues of Sairys

Katrina stood at the bow of the ship that was taking her away from D'Hara. She tried to sort out all of the events of the last few days. She had tried to sleep, but sleep would not come. She had thought that the night air and stars shining brightly above might clear her head somewhat. As she stood there staring into the darkness, a familiar form appeared before her.

The great ice blue dragon Nailyon spoke as she neared the ship "Daughter of Giants, do not be dismayed or lose hope. Perhaps it is time for your next lesson child. For this lesson you will need to travel with me to a far distant land. For you to go with me will require a leap of faith, much as this journey to a new life is. Are you ready to take that chance Daughter?”

Katrina nodded and leapt from the ship toward the cold waters. She felt herself snatched up by huge claws and felt the power as she was placed on the back of the dragon. It took her a moment to regain her breath as the sheer force of it knocked the wind out of her. She held tight as the dragon rose in flight. She saw the world soaring by beneath her and in no time they landed in front of a huge edifice.

“Where are we? she asked Nailyon, as she slid to the ground beside her.

“This is the greatest library in the entire world. All of the documents that have ever been created by man have found their way to this place,” Nailyon replied. “Here is where you must learn the next lessons of virtue. The lessons you must learn at this time are the Virtues taught by the Dragon Saiyrus. His lessons are the virtues of Discipline and Perserverance.

Discipline is the exercise of personal will that upholds honor and the other virtues and translates impulse into action. If one chooses to follow a system of honor, one must be willing to exercise the self-discipline necessary to make it work. In this time of change and upheaval, it is necessary to remain true to your course. All now have made a choice and it is time for them to show the discipline necessary to make the things they choose happen. The building of the new colony will not be easy, but if all keep their eyes on the goal it will happen and all of the work will be worth it.

Perseverance is what we most need to keep in mind in our living of the other values. We need to continue to seek after that which we desire. To accomplish without striving is to do little, but to persevere and finally accomplish a hard fought goal brings great honor. As you can see, all of the virtues are intertwined. The main lesson of Perseverance is only if you give up can you truly fail.

Remember well these words Daughter of the Giants, and beware, there are those who would seek to harm you farther, even try to stop you from sharing my words with the people.”

Katrina started as Thorrson touched her shoulder. She realized all that she had just seen must have been a vision, but it had been so real.

She turned to Thorrson who handed her a message from the guild master of the Way of the Dragons, it said

 Removed from order  

High Council Kisharianda has thrown you out of the order "Way of the Dragons".

She called her scribe and had all that she had seen put into a scroll.  She instructed him to have it delivered to Lady Katayanna with this message

My Lady

Please relay this to the people still in D'Hara, as I have no way to reach them but by you.

May the Dragons continue to guard you My Lady.

Katrina returned to staring into the darkness, but tears flowed from her eyes as she stared into the distance.
