The Truth

New Prophets

The Shattered God cannot reveal all of His truth at once. When Gilbert Norrel received his revelations, they came in bits and pieces, in different forms. He saw the Truth, he wrote the Truth, he felt the Truth in his heart, but he did not receive all of the Truth, and it took many months of contemplation before even the slightest bit of sense could be made of his visions.

As men are imperfect vessels for such an all-encompassing Truth, and as the Shattered God cannot communicate perfectly, we are left with the assumption that more prophets may come in time. Other prophets have come before Gilbert, but they did not have the Truth; they saw only one aspect of reality, but could not encompass it all. The only reason that the Truth has come so late is thricefold: First, Gilbert was as perfect a Prophet as had ever come before. One of his senses were broken, allowing the Shattered God into his mind. Second, he had seen the Evil of the world in the fifth invasion of Beluaterra, where he was tortured. He had no sense of moral relativism; there is good, and there is evil. Third, the Shattered God has become strong. It has been strengthened over millennia through virtuous life and worship of its godly shards, and has now become strong enough to communicate the whole truth.

New Prophets will be judged by the Synod. If their message contains even a word of heresy, of evil, or of chaos, they will be rejected and excommunicated or worse. If their message rings true, however, they will be welcomed as an elder of the faith and will be bowed to and respected as was the original Broken Prophet.

Broken Men

Only broken men may truly sense the Shattered God. Gilbert Norrel lost his eye to the Overlord of Beluaterra, and the Shattered God took up the place of the eye and spoke unto him. At first, he only saw the Truth, though it was scattered and took many months to make sense of. Then, he heard the Truth. Then, he felt the Truth, and later he wrote the Truth.

The Gods Above

It is impossible to find all of the gods above, as they are as numerous as the stars. Anyone willing to propose the existence of a certain god must prove two things before the Synod.

1. There was a genuine miracle or revelation leading to the uncovering of the god.

2. That this god is pure and does not represent chaos or corruption in any way, shape, or form.
