He wrapped the thin blanket around his body and leaned again the night's biting wind, feeling Danost's eyes on him, smirking. Wiping the spittle from his numb lips, he looked back into the crowded boat, away from his partner and towards the shocked, scared mass of huddled peasants fleeing the city. He'd been silent since entering Fwuvoghor, shocked at the sight of so many Undead corpses littering the field before the walls of the small city.

"I believe you," he muttered through clenched teeth, his quiet reply drowned out by the wind and the murmur of peasants.

He couldn't see his Partner, but he knew he was smiling. "Do what?"

"I believe you," he said again, louder this time, "You gloating bastard, I believe you!" He stood, the deck shifting beneath his feet, throwing him off-balance as he turned on Danost. "I don't know why the hell you had the urge to drag me over the roughest terrain in Avalon, through a ruined stronghold occupied by a marauding army, and over a battlefield to prove me wrong, but you did!" Dropping to his knee, he leaned close to Danost, who sat there staring straight out over the side of the ship, at the rolling waves of the Fwuvoghor straight, a small smile on his otherwise uncaring face. "Can we go home now?"

"No."

"No?"

"No."

"Why?" Baldhart asked, puzzled, feeling suddenly stupid.

"Same reason I drug you through the roughest terrain in Avalon, through a marauding Army, and over a battlefield-" he turned to Baldhart, and his face broke out into a wide grin, "-Adventure!"

"Adventure?"

"Adventure. This is the most important event in the history of the entire world! Don't you want to be there, to live it?"

"Y'know, I ought to stab you on principal."

The back of an ox cart carrying turnips wasn't exactly what you would call a comfortable ride. The lack of springs on the crude cart meant that even the smallest bump was a jarring crash through their bodies. But still, it was better than walking the whole way.

The farmer had picked up another freeman traveling between two villages, and he had related a chilling tale to Danost and Baldhart.

"I was right there when it happened. That thing called itself Vicious. It was big, and mean looking. Just looking at it, I got a chill down my spine. It was like it was radiating pure evil. I don't know where he came from, but those undead were doing its bidding. They went where he told them to go, and killed whoever he wanted dead. Well, I was inside the tavern when we heard the commotion. We al went to the windows to see what was happening.

There he was, scary as hell. Vicious was standing in the middle of the street with his unholy horde around him. They had surrounded some poor sod and had him trapped. He was standing there in the middle of them, clutching his pack to his chest as hard as he could. You could see that he was terrified.

Then without sayin' anything at all, Vicious lifts his arm and points at the guy. All the sudden the ground starts shaking, real bad. You could hear mugs falling from the shelves behind the bar. I lost my footing and fell. When I got up and looked out the window again, Vicious was lowering his arm. The man he had been pointing at was gone. There was no sign of him at all. There's no way he could have gotten out of the ring of walking corpses. He just disappeared.

Well, I didn't want to be the next one to disappear so I got out of there, fast! Later that day I found out that the poor guy's name was Naguto. Seems like he had something that Vicious wanted. Naguto wouldn't give it to him, so now Naguto is gone."

Danost and Baldhart talked to the freeman for quite a while about the events, but had not gotten anything else useful out of him.

After a few hours the two adventurers hopped off the cart in a small village in Ajitmon.

"Well, Baldhart, what did you think of that guy's story? After what we saw in Zod, I'm inclined to believe him. I've heard that these Necromancers have two of whatever it is they're looking for. Naguto, and whoever it was in Zod, maybe?"

"It could be. But if they can just wave a hand and make a man disappear, do we really want to be looking for them? I doubt that our two swords can do much against black magic like that."

"I think you're right, Baldhart. I really do. Look, it's only a few hours' walk to Cjelegy, and we can probably make it before nightfall. Let's head out and see if we can still find a room before they're all taken."

The two young adventurers headed off down the road to Cjelegy,
