Revision as of 08:01, 2 November 2005

Please add your proposal names below following the format. If you have special proposals for cities or certain regions be sure to note them out. You can refer to the map if you like.

A few region names have already been nominated. The largest city will be named Darfix in order to honor the original creator of this map who made this all possible. The second largest city will likely fall into the disposal of Gsklee. If someone wants to propose for the third largest city, do not be hesitant to speak.

Every proposer will find at least part of their proposed names be adopted. If the total number of proposals exceed the amount of names we want (around 230), however, the quality and quantity of your proposals will decide how many they will be accepted, while if there are repeated proposals for same locations, whether your proposal will become the final one shall be a matter of luck and probability.

Oriental Names suggestion from Balley

since Chinese is a Characterical language....i have to explain a bit..more

NAMING places in a Chinese way - properly...

Many who dont know Chinese but want to make a Chinese name would just simply find a dictionary and grab words, making some nonsense words (especially ones seen in tatoos...ugh)

Many Chinese places are based on a prefix or suffix plus a word to descibe the feature of the place

Geographical

  • xian 山= hill / mountain
  • yang 陽= sun (eg: Hanyang the ancient capital of Qin Dynasty, a South facing slope. In the Northern Hemisphere a South facing slope is warmer, Han means facing i guess)
  • jiang 江= river

problems: words with the same sound

  • jiang also stands for border jiang 疆....
  • he 河= also river
  • hai 海 = sea
  • wu 湖 = lake
  • tau 頭 = head
  • zhou 州= region, province (very common in ancient China!)
  • gang 港 = port
  • wan 灣 = bay
  • lin 林 = forest
  • jing 京 = capital / big city (IRL, Beijing = North Capital)

Directional:

  • dong 東 = east
  • nan 南 = south
  • xi 西 = west
  • bei 北= north

Many of these combinations are used in real world (eg: North of the Lake = Wubei.). So for BM map I would have to choose some fancier , more ancient words. Also it is better to relate places on map The Eastern Island on the map

  • Donghaiwei = 東海衛 (Fort on the Eastern seas) (looks not so good in Chinese, okay in English sound though)

City on coast

  • Linhai 臨海 (By the sea)

Just City

  • Longjing 龍京 = Dragon Capital / City (again rare in Chinese..but okay in English)

A moutain

  • Yunxian 雲山 = Cloudy Mountain...

or

  • Caiyunxian 彩雲山 = Visual sensational Cloudy Mountain ..hmm...

Aboves are not so good in Chinese (just...not so good, mostly the feel) but examples, but if you feel okay feel free to use them. (This is English game anyway :p)

Cooler usage of words below:

Preffix:

  • Wuyuan武玄 = Related to Battle, no geographic meaning but looks cool

fancy suffixes behind it to suit locations

  • 關 guan = fort / wall
  • 邑 city = but more ancient usage
  • 寺 ji = temple

More to come. I need to think awhile...hmm

Gee, I am a native Chinese ;)
I think this is the first time I meet a player in BM who is also a Chinese :) -- Gsklee 1 November 2005 17:39 (CET)

Suggestions sent to Gsklee by in-game messages

By Phelan
  • City - "Gaston City" or just "Gaston"
Reason: Gaston was the name of the county I started in with the Adrian Empire; a medieval re-creation society that I dedicated 12 years to.
  • City - "Chrysantalys"
Reason: A great mountain city that existed before written history currently records. Known for mining of preciuos and semi-preciuous gems. citizens are very distrustful of outsiders even those of their own realm, but viciuos fighters when protecting their home.
  • City - "Samhain"
Reason: A great city named after summers end
