The March of Shinnen Purlieus cradles the westernmost Lurian city of Shinnen, in the wild reaches of Northern Forland. Its purpose is to guard the numerous towns, villages, and farmlands surrounding Shinnen. This purpose is rendered simple by its rough landscape, providing a topographic wall against the abominations that lurk in the neighboring regions, while also providing satisfactory mobilization for friendly armies seeking passage to the city. Mountains to the west restrict abomination movement in Thar Gortauth, while the hills to the south restrict bandit movement and formation - despite easy cover and hideouts.

Earldom of Shinnen Purlieus is located in the south-mediterranean Dwilight, in the wild reaches of northern Forland. The province was mostly built as a suburbia for the regional center Shinnen, in order to safeguard the coastal city of the Euschean Sea with its hilly landscape. The hills are running further down south to Smokey Hills, hence protecting Shinnen from the dangerous clearances of Thar Gortauth and Garuck Udor, home of the rogue tribes that are frequently pillaging the area. It is often said that people who wander these clearances alone are meat for the wolves or even worse. There are also some local legends that speak of a large gathering of tribes in distant past, who flamed the fields around the hilly Purlieus with 10,000 torches, and invaded the native Saritians of Shinnen.

Under the Vesperian leadership, native Saritians (Western Lurians) occupied Shinnen Purlieus and made up the majority of its population for as long as anyone could remember. They were thought to be the first people to occupy the march, preceding the formation of the first kingdoms on Dwilight. They were olive skinned, with black or dark brown hair usually worn at shoulder length by both men and women. They were of medium height, quite robust, and warlike as a result of the conditions they lived in. However, most fled the area when starvation ran rampant, forcing the native Saritians to seek food and shelter elsewhere. The march was eventually repopulated with Novans and Pianese (Eastern Lurians), as a result of the second set of recolonization efforts by Luria Nova. These fresh and hard working folk would usher in prosperity and economic activity once again, making Shinnen Purlieus a truly desirable region to own.

Saritians are the native people of Shinnen Purlieus. They are olive skinned, with black or dark brown hair, usually worn at shoulder length by both men and women, and dark eyes. They are of medium height, quite robust and warlike like the land that gave birth to them. For ages they were dominant habitants of Purlieus, until time when the easterners started to invade and colonize, bringing greater civilization on the tips of their swords. Purlieus has always been a particularly difficult region to control. It was first taken by a now destroyed realm of Myern, who were really Fissoans and hence brought in some Madinan seafarer culture, after which the rogue tribes retook it from the Myernian rule. However, as the easterners advanced, Purlieus was taken again, but this time by Lurians. Nobles from Luria Nova sieged and conquered it in the winter of the 15th year of Dwilight.

Under the Vesperian leadership, native Saritians (Western Lurians) occupied Shinnen Purlieus and made up the majority of its population for as long as anyone could remember. They were thought to be the first people to occupy the march, preceding the formation of the first kingdoms on Dwilight.

Shinnen Purlieus has a marketplace, making it a popular spot with traders, lords, and stewards from the surrounding regions.

History

Stories tell of the first colonization efforts, by Luria Nova, in which they invaded and sieged the local tribes, with sword and shield. It was first taken, however, by the (now destroyed) realm of Myern: men and women who were Fissoans in origin. Their sea-like culture began integrating into the region, until rogues retook the lands for their own. It was after said time that the Lurians of the East advanced, solidifying their grasp on Northern Forland.
