Kaylan

Kaylan is the daughter of Dorian and Karina McDowell. From a very young age her days were spent learning the ways of battle. She mastered the sword, bow, and every other weapon her father deemed worthy of attention. Her weapon of choice remains her father’s war bow, which holds extreme sentimental value. She was taught military tactics, the nuances of war and learned harsh lessons most small children would never know. She was molded into a warrior as is every member of the McDowell Clan.

She led a secretive, protected life, in direct result to her parent’s past. She is constantly hiding, and on guard, running from a dark secret in hopes that she will continue to escape another day for if she is ever caught, she will lose her very freedom.

Growing up, her companions were her two cousins Sorsha, Alec and a small boy who was her one and only friend, her scribe Logan. Sorsha and Alec have since then moved on, but she brings Logan with her, no matter where she goes.

She is extremely intelligent, and cunning, but prefers to remain on the battlefield where she can fight her inner demons. She can be extremely serious, but has been known to have light moods. All in all she is very temperamental. She has passion for life but believes she will spend the rest of her days alone, for she refuses to endanger the people closest to her.

Upon coming of age, her dying mother begged for her to do one last thing. Kaylan left in search and has since found her older sister Fiona Onyxien. while in Fontan she also found something she yearned for, yet never thought she would know… Her life changed when she met Sir Malcolm Bedwyr. She fell desperately in irrevocably in love.

She eventually was with child, and upon hearing of the news panicked as did Sir Malcolm who happened to walk into the unexpected announcement. At his reaction Kaylan ran, only to be captured by the men she had been running from her entire life. She was taken from everything she knew and loved. She was abused, raped, and left for dead.

When they heard of this, they all went in their own search to find her. In the end it was Fiona who was able to save Kaylan from her dying state. She was nursed back to health in the refuge of the mountains. It was a long time before she was able to regain the courage to return, for how could she face Malcolm after what had happened?

Malcolm and Alec, her cousin, made sure Kaylan would never have anything to fear again and killed the warlord Gronak. Returning home both believing she was gone from this world, they tried to move on as best they could.

When Kaylan returned, she was believed by Alec to be an apparition when he realized it was truly her, it was then he informed her that Malcolm had left. Her world crumbled and she was devastated for she had lost the last remaining piece of her heart. Drowning herself in her duties, she was taken in by the elite, becoming part of The Lions. She immersed herself in combat, and died inside. Unable to deal with the living surrounding her, she withdrew into herself, become a shell of who she was. She was lost to the blood lust of battle, and life itself.

It was a while before Alec confronted her, and managed to get through to her. When he finally did, she went off in search of Malcolm, but never did find him.

She now resides in Cagil, living every day trying to mend a broken heart… Holding on to Malcolm's last give to her - freedom.
