Casus Belli Over Tamirak

This message was sent to all members of Sanguis Astroism as a response to Swordfell's protests against the war and demand for Church intervention.

Brothers and Sisters:

Behind rhetoric and claims there are a certain number of facts. I will attempt to state them as impartially as I may despite my obvious ties to the situation; without further ado, they are as follows:

First, that Corsanctum has legitimate historical claim to the province of Tamirak, which Swordfell lacks. Second, that a dispute arose between Crixus Domitius, Count Tamirak and Wassiley Makej'ev, then Exarch and High Inquisitor, Duke and Margrave Mimer. Corollary to the second, that this dispute centered around perceived hoarding of food to the detriment of the realm and general unwillingness to work for the realm's betterment. Third, that Crixus Domitius was banned from the realm of Corsanctum as the culmination of this dispute. Fourth, that Crixus Domitius then gave allegiance of himself and the region Tamirak to Swordfell, Duchy of Sol. Fifth, that some 600 bushels of food from Tamirak were thereafter reported to be available on the marketplace marked for Swordfell's consumption only. Sixth, that agreement was reached between then-Exarch Wassiley and Lord Imperator Claude to return the region to Corsanctum's jurisdiction. Seventh, that Regent Medugnatos' disappearance coupled with the surge of monster activity imposed a reasonable delay on the return of the region. Eighth, that Tamirak was turned over to Corsanctum by the Lord Imperator, with Crixus Domitius as its Count. Ninth, that Crixus Domitius, Count Tamirak then gave allegiance of the region Tamirak back to Swordfell. Tenth, that Crixus Domitius' governance deliberately and willfully led to severe starvation in Tamirak with the express purpose of driving it rogue.

I would assert, brothers and sisters, that Tamirak is rightfully the sovereign territory of Corsanctum and that we are justified in pursuing any reasonable means up to and including warfare to secure it. I would assert that any man who takes territory from his realm and gives it to another realm without the consent of that realm's government is a traitor inherently and without regard for circumstance. I would assert that the nominal return of a region while a traitor to the realm to which it is returned is its lord (and therefor capable of altering the region's allegiance) demonstrates poor faith in negotiation. I assert that this incident along with the conduct of the Ambassador of Swordfell have harmed Corsanctum's trust in the good faith of that realm. Further, given the severe starvation in the region it is clear that Crixus Domitius and by extension Swordfell is either incapable or unwilling to ensure the stability and security of Tamirak. As such I would assert that requests on the part of Swordfell for more time are unreasonable. Given all of this, I would assert that a limited war with Swordfell for the express and sole purpose of the reacquisition of Tamirak is both just and reasonable for enforcing the territorial rights of Corsanctum and ensuring the security and stability of a key food-producing region.

That Swordfell would hide behind the Church and assert that this limited war has ought to do with theology or is in some way an attack on either the spiritual or temporal authority of the Church of Sanguis Astroism I find both ludicrous and insulting. But given the past and current conduct of the nobles making such demands and accusations I will neither expect nor demand apology. Nor will I offer it as it is my personal belief that we of Corsanctum have been more than patient.

Ambassador Katrina, Grandmistress Eviera, and all Morek; Dragon King Machiavel and all D'hara, Vasilif Sergio and all Astrum: to you I will apologize deeply and sincerely for any offense my Regent has offered you, and I use your Graces' secular titles because this is at its core a secular affair. I do not know why the federation was broken with and I do not know why the alliance with D'hara was dissolved; I am the military commander of Corsanctum and not her diplomat nor her ruler. But I hope you will see it fit to forgive the breach and renew the partnership between our realms.

Ever Yours in Faith,

Cathan MacGeil, Exarch of Corsanctum & Margrave of the Well of Mimer
