She waited for the duke's judgement. She could still hope he might allow her these simple things. Then again, simple? A duke had enough to trouble him, she still felt it was wrong to ask ‘‘anything’’. The blade deserved noble hands, it was its place, as simply as men were born to follow those of nobility. Strange as it felt though the fear was beginning to subside. The Duke truly didn't strike her as a man to kill her, nor even hurt her.

Part 15: A Tentative Inquiry

(Roleplay from Irdys Galeheart)

Eyes flashed up, staring unbelieving at the duke, a mouth opening and closing beneath the dark hood of the cloak but no sound coming out. A mere mute nod was the first response, before finally a hesitant, timid, voice said; "If, that is, an honour your Grace, an hon." The words failed for a moment, Irdys taking a deep breath, realizing just how badly that sounded. She still prayed the Duke would not take too great an interst. Eyes falling back down, taking a deep breath she finally managed to say in a somewhat manly sounding voice;

"Thank you your Grace, it is a fortune you offer which makes the blade you hold a greater artifact then I'd dare hope, and no nobler hand could wield it. I will obey all laws while I'm here and do all fealty that is requiered of one of my birth. I, that is, a pardon; I believe I have done no crimes." believe, oh god... The uncertainty was certainly there. Was a place of birth a crime? Was travelling into Aenillian lands without permission a crime? She wasn't sure... If only she knew for sure.

Taking a deep breath she added hesitantly, hopefully; "While in these lands your Grace, may I say that I hail from the lands of Idapur? Even, that is, while it is not the place of my birth?"

Eyes pressed shut again, the blade could still fall. She wouldn't even blame the duke, 50 gold, 50 gold was at stake... You could hire a good set of guardsmen for that money for well, for years!

She waited for the duke's judgement. She could still hope he might allow her these simple things. Then again, simple? A duke had enough to trouble him, she still felt it was wrong to ask anything. The blade deserved noble hands, it was its place, as simply as men were born to follow those of nobility. Strange as it felt though the fear was beginning to subside. The Duke truly didn't strike her as a man to kill her, nor even hurt her.
