Part 13: A Dual Concern

(Roleplay from Irdys Galeheart)

Irdys sat silently watching Xarnelf as he judged her, weighed her, the tension seeping out at the words of release. She'd feared for a moment what might happen but it seemed to be shifting to the right side of things. But now suddenly the duke wanted a price. What could she name? It was hard to think of the price of the blade itself. Yet, the price of the sword was hardly what mattered, really, what could she do with a bundle of gold?

Get herself some better equipment, but little more, finally enlist at the temple...

Quickly she dropped her gaze again, doing her best to regain her composture. She had a lot to say now, it was best her voice not fail her again. A somewhat gruff tone was managed as she said;

"It is not merely gold I hope for your Grace. I was hoping that, maybe, I could find a home here in Aenillia. Journey in these lands to fight monsters and undead without fear of loosing my head too swiftly. A, a pardon for my place of birth so you will. If you could perhaps, that is, if you would allow it?" Taking a deep breath Irdys quickly continued; "And, and some gold your Grace, 20 gold pieces perhaps, to enlist in the temples of the Aenil and get myself a bit finer a sword I hope, to hunt with here. A, a fortune I am aware your Grace."

Irdys sat silent, not daring to lift her gaze. She still felt the demands were outrageous, 20 gold... One could live in luxury for years off that amount of money. Still, the die was cast. One thing she had clear enough in her mind, no haggling... If the duke wished to pay less, less it would be. She merely prayed the pardon would come. As she liked these lands. This Aenillia, the presence of other adventurers. Yes, this was a good land... Perhaps at some point they might even introduce some bounty on the creatures she hunted. But that was all for later concern, now, first, she needed acceptance.
