Part 1: A Simple Request

(Roleplay from Irdys Galeheart)

Irdys carefully crept through the streets of Idapur. It had been a long journey to get here, and not an easy one. The lands she'd been born in harsh, and not much to her liking, as well as the noble promising her occasional beatings because they disliked her lowborn ilk had been enough. It hadn't been an easy thing, and she doubted she would find much gratitude in the lands that the nobles she'd been born under battled. Still, she'd always found the Aenilian faith the one to follow, even if she could never afford the entry fee. In the same way she'd always heard good things of these lands and the nobles that lived there, even if such things were but rumours for ones of her kind.

Once more she stared at the blade she'd found. Pressed her eyes shut and made the decision. If nothing else then perhaps at least that blade would buy her the solace to reside in these lands. It would not be her choice to present something so fine in possibly such an ill manner, but she had to try.

She'd considered ways of presenting it. Out in the street drawing a blade might get her cut down, and letters had never been her strong point. Finally she decided that a simple request for an audience to present the blade to the duke of these lands might be best. And so it happened that near evenfall a young Soliferum adventurer applied to the guards at the duchal palace praying for the Duke's justice and audience. She wasn't quite sure how the duke would take it, even how justice was done here exactly. But asking for an audience might trigger some interest, she knew it was likely the boldest and most foolish thing she'd ever done and she hoped that would be the same for others of her kind.

And as the sun slowly set infront of the palace she waited, the guard had said he'd see what was possible. Waiting was part of it she supposed, she just hoped her courage would not leave her before she got an answer, or she still dared hope, the audience.

At the behest of the sergeant, who continued to stare skeptically at the adventurer, one of the younger guards posted on duty at the ducal palace ventured inside the building to relate the curious news to one of the senior stewards. Of course, all of the guards knew that the duke had already left for Ornaz that morning, but the practical sergeant saw no reason to tell that to this somewhat grungy-looking fellow, who claimed to possess a valuable artifact, no less!

At worst, His Grace would simply not be interested in so quickly returning back home from his travels to the front lines; however, at best, this blade might indeed be some rare relic from the past, fit for the hand of a duke. And so, the sergeant continued his scrutiny of the adventurer for several more moments of silence before speaking again.

"Show me this blade of which you speak. If you wish to have even the remotest chance of being granted an audience, you will allow the blade to be inspected by His Grace's trusted weapons-master, who will be notified if I believe it is worth his time."
