Second Awakening (Part 4: Ultimatum)

Xarnelf remained in his stationary position on the edge of the bed, contemplating the information just given to him apparently from his best friend Urjintah. He did not know whether he should believe the other man's words, or even whether he could. The knight kept trying to remember his past, but not a single thing was recalled; he felt desperately empty and hollow inside, yet at the same time calm and serene.

Then the light pouring in through the open door of the small garden house slowly dimmed, as if a cloud was covering up the sunlight. Noticing the gradual change, the young noble glanced up and away from the water glass on the table. As he turned his head towards the entrance, a misty, grey cloud seemingly coalesced out of nowhere and immediately started taking form.

In the matter of a few quick heartbeats, the figure was fully revealed to be a humanoid with wings of dark gray. Smiling curiously at the seated knight, the visitor began speaking as he folded his wings behind his back.

"Greetings, firstborn; how do you do?
I have come to enlighten you."

The Lightstar scion stared blankly at the intruder.

"Who...what...are you?"

"An Aenil am I;
'Tis Xarutek, aye.
To you I bring a message from my lord;
Acknowledge it well, and take up your sword."

Something nagged at the back of the noble's mind after he heard the gray-winged angel's singsong voice; it was as if he had heard that voice before, as if he knew that it somehow held the key to unlocking the door which forbade him access to his memories. Xarnelf remained silent, simultaneously feeling both vaguely intrigued and slightly appalled at the current situation.

"He calls you to, the Path, restore;
Heed his will to remember more.
Aid him in saving from doom,
And they may lengthen your loom."

The knight raised his eyebrows and took a deep breath.

"You speak in riddles which I cannot begin to decipher, let alone understand. What mean you?"

"Consider carefully, young hero,
Else ev'rything shall approach zero..."

And with that, the Aenil held up a hand, his palm facing Xarnelf's forehead. Closing his eyes in concentration, the angel released a small, stimulating cone of mental energy, blasting the noble backwards onto his back. Immediately afterwards, Xarutek smirked and then vanished, leaving no trace of his ever being present in the room except for a small letter falling gently to the bed from where his smile was but a moment ago.
