To Sasat at Last

A rider from the city approached the young knight's camp several hours later. Setting his journal aside, Xarnelf stood and awaited the news with great anticipation. The messenger slowed as he neared and then dismounted with a small leather pouch, which he proceeded to open.

"Sir Xarnelf Lightstar?"

"I am he. What news, good man?"

The courier withdrew a letter and handed it over to Xarnelf. "Important orders from General Helios."

"Thank you." The knight smiled and nodded as he accepted the note. After saluting, the messenger remounted his horse and then rode off.

Xarnelf quickly read the note. At last, it was time. He looked around the camp for his captain and then saw him eating a light meal of bread and cheese with the two sergeants. Xarnelf trotted over and informed them of the news.

"Gentlemen, the time has come. Gather the men. We march to Sasat within the hour."
