Giask is the largest city and capital of Luria Nova.

Lore

Keepers of Lore have gathered stories in Giask. Read them here.

Most recently, due to the Lurian Civil War, Giask is no longer part of Pian en Luries at all, but the capital of the newly-founded eponymous realm of Giask.

The City of Giask is certainly one of the vastest cities in southern Dwilight, if not indeed the largest. Sprawling buildings from the shores of the inland lake, it reigns as a centre of commerce over the two shipping lanes - one, the relatively short, 165 mile trip to the opposite city of Askileon, and the other, the massive 950 mile route to Port Nebel, rarely arriving but bringing strange tales from distant lands when it does.

To the south stretches vast numbers of minor villages, often almost indistinguishably fading to the bordering town of Outer Giask. Beyond that lie Giask's breadbasket provinces, but also the open lands where it is rumoured bandits and worse roam almost unchecked.

Entertainment facilities in the city are not limited. The seafront holds a number of more seedy establishments while towards the higher class (and older) end of the city, dance halls may be found - the most famous of which being the reputed Phoenix and Swan Theatre. The ever expanding south also provides good opportunities for pub crawls.

The City is strategically built as houses and buildings grow taller as they get closer to the heart of the City. It was designed so archers could efficiently rain down death from roof tops if any army ever got past the walls that are currently under construction. In the centre of the city, such as it is, is the Ducal palace. It is constructed from local stone mines, taken from the very cliffs themselves. Carved from coquina, it has the impression of having seen a lot of the history of the region, and presided over much of it too.

Giask.

From north to south, not one is greater. From east to west, only one is maybe able to rival her. Giask is the kind of city one visits a dozen times and still has exploring left to do. Vast and legendary are truly words worthy of her. The scope of everything is just beyond anything seen in other places. Where the coquina beds rise from the Euschean a massive harbor exists. Merchants ships from across the continent call her home. Huge cranes stand like hunched giants over the ships. An endless stream of goods pour into the city and breathe life into her.

From these very docklands which are veritable communities of their own do the finest and the poorest quality merchandise get distributed. Behemoth warehouses first swallow and then disgorge their commodities. As one ventures deeper into the city, beyond the Grand harbor you will enter the Lower city. It is here that a large portion of workers live. Small craftsmen and a legion of travelers find a bed in the many Inns and hostels. Which so many different cultures and peoples arriving in the city it is only natural that it is vibrant with music, art and poetry. In the more upscale area's parks and tree and flower lined boulevards start appearing but closer to the edges of the huge city you will find sprawling slums.

Transitioning from this area one finds the Inner City. A true metropolis with grand buildings ancient and new. Huge markets and many temples and shrines. Where street performers entertain the crows and fountains bring fresh water to the inhabitants. With the considerable wealth of the city have the former Lords of Giask seen fit to provide the people with spacious Boulevards. Flower gardens and opulent buildings if not fronts. Statues are littered throughout the City that has been Capital, provider and jewel, many times all at once.

Near the center of the City on a rise that is made gradual with the rising urbanization stands a magnificent palace donned in Golden paints and metals. Ivory white marble columns and lavish if not grandiose gardens and exterior buildings. It easily dwarfs the homes of lesser kings and makes envious all that behold her. The Lord or Lady of Giask resides here and not a single subject can ever question where power is vested.

As befitting the splendor is the Noble district not far away. Traveling south in the city from the Grand docks past the palace lies an expanse of large noble estates. Styled in Vesperi, Pain en Luries, Fissoan and even old Giaskian. The families that live here have both new and ancient ties to the land and some try to emulate the Golden Palace but so far none have managed to come close. This paints the picture of a city hugging the coast and as your travel further away from the ocean the city becomes more clean, more spacious and more grand.

In reality this is not true for beyond the Noble district lies the Gate district. It resumes more plebeian residence and really is still a well of area but far more suited to the masses. Publicly maintained parks, Lyceums and lanes of craftsmen call this area home. The Main gate of Giask is here as well. A massive construction able to let pass under its arches at least 12 ox carts abreast! A recent addition in the year 28, at the beginning of summer as an elegant and large bust of a woman. Slender and soft features and with long hair. She is made of pristine marble and look over all that pass under the great gate. In old Lurian it has inscribed under her - I have returned my love

Beyond the colossal city walls one finds suburbs, shanty towns and slums sprawling in all directions. The countryside is busy, plucked and yet still full of color. Copious amounts of wealth is continuously being poured into beautification of the city and as one resides in Giask, one truly comes to learn that Giask has plenty of that.
