County of Ecsetuah Template:Infobox Regions

The fourth most populous region of Arcachon, the Dark Isle, Ecsetuah is a rural, coastal land consisting of seventeen villages situated on an even mix of watered coastal plains and inland coniferous forest. It is close to Ohnar West on the mainland, and several of it's harbors serve as transshipment points for trade and travel across the Arcachon Channel.

Economy

Ecsetuah, as a rural region, lacks the wealth and luster of towns or cities, and is populated mostly by uneducated peasants. As such, it's economy relies primarily on resource gathering.

Food is the main export, from farming, livestock or fishing. Other resources include gold, logs, limestone, granite, iron and copper; pearls are sometimes harvested and at least one village is known to grow a crop of opium.

Manufactured goods, along the lines of wooden barrels, boats, sails and ships, are found on the coast while lumber is produced further inland. As with most regions in the world, ale is commonly brewed and the locals strongly believe theirs is of the highest quality.

Religion

As a Theocracy, religion plays a large role in the lives of the people, and Ecsetuah is no exception. With a largely common, rural populace, Adaghar is less worshipped than Omorthion, while the other deities of the Adgharhin Way are acknowledged but rarely popular.

While shrines to various deities - including, it is rumored, some of the older Gods of pre-historical Arcachon - are found everywhere, the primary religious building is a Temple of Adaghar, located in the midst of the northwestern forest, where the Deletuah Monastary used to be before it fell into disrepair. This Temple was constructed by Elerik Taim in an effort to spread the Adgharhinist faith.

Military

Ecsetuah is home to the Burning Sword Khalkar, infantry who are equipped with a long spear and a broadsword or hand-and-a-half, but only lightly armored with no shield and leather caps and jerkins, in the tradition of the Swords of Adaghar. All told, about 110 men at any time are garrisoned in the County, most of them doing bi-monthly training and guard duty at the fort of Ecset Hill as part of service obligation to their lord.

The Khalkar Hawkeyes are raised from the rangers of the northern forest. While generally poorly armed, they are masters of defensive fighting.

Villages

The following information was gathered in the First Census, initiated by the bailiff of Count Elerik Taim shortly after his appointment to the region.

Ecset Hill

Ecset Hill is the County Manor, seat of local government and one of the most defensible of locations within the region. The pallisade fort is described as having four 25 foot tall towers and 15 foot wooden wall with crenellations for archer fire. The stark black banner of House Dodger flies above the humble battlements.

The Hill is situated at a central crossroads where trade routes from Mnalor to the north and Soniel to the east interesect. It's home to the most talented smiths of the region, who produce the namesake swords of the Burning Sword Khalkar as well as strong iron nails to ship south to the coastal villages for use in barrels and seagoing ships.

Isolated in the northern forests, Itiel is the smallest and one of the poorest village in Ecsetuah. It's home to a hardy, xenophobic crowd of loggers and pig farmers. The logs are exported, but are less well received than from other villages, due to the difficulty of the passage through the dense pines. It is within two hours foot journey to Deletuah Monastary, however, and the two groups are known to interact for economic purposes.

The small river of Ssohn runs straight south through Ecsetuah, but it's many waterfalls and rocky rapids prevent it from being a practical means of transportation. Only one village is situated on it's shores, and it takes its name from the river itself. Trout and eel are fished from its waters. The village is located on the edge of the northern forests and it's population regularly harvest logs to make lumber.
