Background

Balian Da Hadez is the eldest son of the respected Darkan war hero Luthor Da Hadez.

His mother Luessa, a stern woman of noble blood, died from an infection contracted during his birth. Although Luthor and his second wife, Lillith, doted on his eldest son and gave him the happiest childhood possible Balian eventually grew to despise them both. He blamed his father for his mother's death and accused him of betraying her memory by remarrying. The strain of this family conflict drove a wedge between Balian and his beloved half-brother Severn. Events came to a head when Balian attempted to assassinate Severn whom he thought, incorrectly, was tring to usurp his claim to the Da Hadez legacy. Balian was foiled and was forced to flee to Norland where his straightforward approach to warfare has stood him in good stead. With his exile to Norland Balian's scorn for his family have grown into a burning hatred that will be quenched only by his return to what he sees as his rightful place at the head of the Da Hadez family.

Recent Events

The Fall Of Moramroth

Balian was the only Norland noble to be present at the fall of Moramroth. He had been stationed deep in those inhospitible mountains for many months leading scouting parties. When news of the approach a huge Eston army came he continued coordinating scouting missions until the last minute then lead the local militia in a brave but doomed last stand.

Feud with Lukas of Eston

Surrounded by enemy troops and the charnal remains of the defeated Moramroth militia he was challenged to a duel to the death by the reknowned Eston swordfighter Lukas. The bloody and exhausted Viking fought hard but was ultimately beaten and left for dead. Plucked from the corpse-cart by his loyal healer Balian miraculously survived both his wounds and the treacherous journey down the mountains. Despite his many fresh scars and the loss of his right eye he returned to the front lines immediately.

Not two weeks later Lords Balian and Lukas clashed again in Barad Riel following a long and bloody battle. Lord Lukas attempted to finish the job he started in Moramroth by goading Balian into another duel to the death. On this occasion, however, Balian's tactical skill prevailed over his opponent's superior swordsmanship and Lukas surrendered before blood was spilled.
