Tom is currently working on a secret visualisation project related to BattleMaster.

What he needs is a couple 3D models of buildings, medieval style of course. Here's the list, though the list is not 100% specific - if you have a better idea that might fit, feel free to ask.

Since building a 3D model is quite a bit of work, we strongly suggest you use the discussion page and/or mail tom@battlemaster.org if you have a basic concept, definitely before you go into the fine details.

  • windmill
  • lumber shop, saw mill or something like that
  • hunting lodge, tanners', etc.
  • smith, tool maker or something like it
  • trading post, trading guild or caravan station
  • court house or similar administrative building
  • several mansions in various sizes and "luxury" levels, from a small knight's home to a lordly manor

Technical Details

  • Models should be low-poly, as they will be used in real-time rendering. Exact polygon count? No idea. It should still look good when the building fills an image ca. 800x600 (i.e. the entire building is visible), as the rendering will rarely be closer to the building than that or more detailed.
  • The preferred format is FBX. Other accepted formats are: Maya (.ma and .mb), Cheetah 3d (.jas), Blender (.blend), 3DS if the textures are UV-mapped. In case of doubt, send me a simple test file and I'll tell you if it imports correctly.
  • If appropriate, the model should have animations (e.g. the windmill should turn).

What You'll Get

A contest should have something to win, right?

Well, since we are looking for multiple buildings, there'll probably be more than one winner.

For every building that is accepted/used/declared winner, you will get 2 months of free goodies. Yes, that means if three of your buildings are used in the project, you will get 6 months of goodies.

In addition, every winner will get a sneak preview of the secret project, long before the other players get to see it.

Examples

Here's a list of a few buildings from the excellent "Medieval Worlds" collection that I like. If the contest doesn't work out, I'll probably buy some of those:

Free Models, need conversion

There are also free models available all over the web, but often in a format I can not use. If someone could convert these to one of the formats outlined above (.fbx preferred), I'd be happy:
