History

Duke Proslyn Merytis

Appointed in the wake of Duchess Marie Euphrasia's banishment, Duke Proslyn has been working hard to surmount the difficulties posed in the wake of his predecessor's neglect. After creating the Silver Shield, the City's recruitment centres were rebuilt.

The harsh winters and waves of monsters following the Kaennji Secession had Proslyn struggle to keep the duchy intact. Fortunately, recent times appear to be more fortuitous.

Duchess Marie Euphrasia le Foie

Askileon was the second city to come under Pian en Luries' control. Shortly after Lady le Fois was gifted with the title of Duchess Askileon, Askileon Purlieus and Santoo became vassals of the Duchess. It didn't take long for the Duchy to become a great power, as they spearheaded the taking of Giask. Its borders extended from eastern shores of Santoo to the coastline of Ciarin Tut.

Unfortunately, the Duchess became deluded with dreams of power and, forgoing her responsibilities to her lords and nobles, schemed alone in the city. The loss of Ciarin Tut to a peasant uprising was eventually followed by the change in allegiance of Santoo to Giask. After the Duchess's continued silence, even Askileon Purlieus followed suite.

City

Askileon maintains a militia, known colloquially as the Guard. Currently commanded by Alphonse Erando, it has three companies, two companies of infantry and one of special forces.

Armies of Askileon

• Silver Shield of Askileon
  • Founded by Duke Proslyn Merytis shortly after his appointment as Duke of Askileon, it played a pivotal role in the aftermath of the Kaennji Secession.

Defunct Armies of Askileon

• Guardians of Askileon
  • Founded by Marquis Ludovico Sforza of Askileon Purlieus, it originally worked under the aegis of Askileon before changing allegiance to Giask after the appointment of Ludovico as Duke, as of roughly March 24th, 1008.
• Silver Cross of Askileon
  • Founded by Duchess Marie Euphrasia le Foie, it became defunct after her banishment from the realm.

After taking Giask this army was converted to work as the Guardians of Giask, and is therefore no longer an army of Askileon as of roughly March 24th, 1008.

Religion

Paganism

Paganism is pretty much the only thing in the Duchy of Askileon. And Harvest Festivals to the Sun are very common sights, especially in Santoo. Another is the Festival of Nights held in Askileon.

The Order of St. Iestyn

A rising movement in Askileon is known as The Order of St. Iestyn.

Poryatown Press

Patron Duchess Marie Euphrasia le Fois
Founder Zanaras Tian
The Poryatown Press was founded and funded by Zanaras Tian, after taking an oath with the Duchess she became patron. Building the first of the Poryatown Press halls in Askileon.
It is also here at the Poryatown Press that the Lurian Weekly is published for all its avid readers.

Festivals

The Festival of Nights

A young girl is locked at the top of the Tower of Twilight, and the task is given to four young men to climb the outer wall of the tower. It is very dangerous as one can only use the vines that grow from its base and reach up to the four windows. It is not unheard of for the men to fall and die having not reached the top. For it was here in the Tower of Twilight that the Moon having taken a human form dwelt.

The Sun Harvest

A pagan festival to the Sun most commonly held in Santoo.
