Family Letters - Part II
Sirion City, in the Count's House

The two men made a reverence and left the office. Erik was again alone with the scribe, and he was very curious, but didn't ask anything. The Count served a new portion of wine and he sat down, catching the dagger to open the letter.

***

My youth friend,

I know that you should be very curious, for that I will begin that letter clearing the confusion with the names. As you should know, I adopted my brother's name when he died in a duel in Ikalak. When I arrived in Far-East, after Ikalak disappearing under the furious waters, I still had this name. I became Knight in Lasanar and in few weeks I got to assume Count's position again in Isular. Some documents proving that I went Count of Unagae attested that I have entitled nobility. Unhappily the situation in Lasanar was very complicated and Dukes founded new realms, with new flags and objectives. It was in that time that I decided to adopt my true name again: Gregor Eyolf Serpentis. And then I become Viscount of Isular and Banker of Papania, a small Republic.

I am writing that letter some days after becoming Baron of Abilotiel, a very rich coastal region. I conquered that area after become High Lord (Ruler) of Papania. That title went a great honor to me and for our family, but I am old and tired and I left somebody younger and promising occupy my position. I continue Lord Gold and on that moment I am organizing a great stock of food to face the winter.

My children are strong and they are learning to use the sword with my old captain, Sir Ortlof. My wife is pregnant again and of that time I hope the child is a girl. I would like a small princess. On those times of peace I would have time to take care of her, but we are getting ready to defend our borders. I am sending gold to our family whenever it is possible. And I also sent some presents.

I will wait for your letter.

Gregor Eyolf Serpentis, Baron of Abilotiel and Lord Gold of Papania

Erik read the letter and drank the wine. He was happy in receiving news of the old hero. Now he needed to write an answer, but before he wanted to speak a little more with Nurzahn, the messenger. Erik would meet with him in the tavern. He gave some orders to the scribe and went to the other room to dress a nobler clothes. Therefore he was leaving the house and walking in the direction of the more frequented tavern in Sirion, where they were his soldiers and now his guest.
