The Art of a Good Marriage

Erik was an odd admirer. Even with so much love to share, his eyes never betray him. Lady Marion was still a beautiful woman, full of charms. It was easy to know why he had chosen and presented her with his lineage. However, seeing this beautiful heritage in his daughter concerned him much more than stupid discussions with the old Dukes. That was a palpable and inevitable concern. The Silver Dragon wore a simple vest while in his Tower and after a kiss he began to walk across the room impatiently.

Erik Eyolf: “Marion, my dear... I cannot kill or castrate them all. And although I can choose a good husband for her, I wouldn’t prohibit her to choose the one she loves. However, she is too young for such decisions. And she’s a Lady! You’re not like me. Nothing forbids one woman being loved by two men or one man by two women, but a marriage is something serious. And still more serious is to bring someone to my family and let them do a lot of children with my blood and my name. I wanted sons and daughters. A lot of children with my eyes to spread my power over our lands. I had never considered my grandchildren and beyond...”

He took a deep breath and sat down in an armchair. His hand chased the goblet of wine to abstract a bit. There were many thoughts in his head. Despite having three wives, they were a religious commitment. Just another aspect of power and sovereignty over the state. Although he take advantage of this status, it might be good to listen to the advice he had received. The Silver Dragon was admiring Lady Marion, wondering if they could be married. If they would be happy with a marital life or only brought shame to her name. Erik had a very singular concept of fidelity.

Erik Eyolf: “Maybe she should wait until Dürion finds a wife. He’s still my oldest son and my direct heir. And definitely, I don’t like being ignored. She’s my daughter, my treasure and my blood. Even if I were a damn commoner, any man interested in my daughter should speak to me first. Much better if she chooses an elf, unh!? And yet, I am Duke of Avamar, Judge of Sirion and High Commander of the Silver Legion. This is not enough for that young people show me some respect?”

The concern was just turning into anger. He needed more wine to drown the urge to smash something or someone. Taking care of the family would not be an easy task. Maybe it was appropriate to use an old structure and gather all of them more firmly in a true House.
