The Passeri family is a small family of nobles, far flung across the globe. The family gained nobility through troubadour Galineri Passeri's skillful poetry and songs of the Kings and Queens of Atamara. He was awarded a small estate in what is now Caergoth. Taking the songbird as his banner, the Passeri family has continued to gain modest fame and wealth.

Galineri's son Corvid did not inherit his father's poetic tongue, but his skill with a sword earned the family honor and glory. Galineri's second son, Cantar, followed his brother to battle monsters. Unfortunately, the brothers met their untimely end and most of the family was slaughtered by an undead horde. The surviving children, secreted in a cellar stronghold from the attack, were sent to live with their eccentric Aunt Mimi in Riverholm.

Rae

The eldest of the Passeri family, Rae is very aware of duty and always tries to act with honor. She first picked up a sword in the dank, underground cellar to help protect her siblings and cousins and has never been able to put it down. She is stubborn, but loyal and idealistic.

Cissa

The youngest sister, Cissa is a hedonist and the only one who takes after her grandfather Galineri's artistic spirit. She remembers nothing of her family's death, but knows in her bones that the point of life is to be merry for tomorrow may bring a terrible death. She recklessly drinks to excess, doesn’t like to think too much and enjoys singing as loudly as possible. Even so, she is a kind and generous girl who only wants to make others happy. She has the least ambition as any of her relatives but somehow succeeded in being named Baroness of Stempleto in Avalon. However, her lordship was brief and she returned to Atamara at the request of her sister Rae.

Lucina

Cousin to Rae and Cissa, Lucina is an outcast in the family. She was the last person smuggled into the cellar and this caused Rae to irrationally blame her for the slaughter that followed. What started as a grudge grew into outright rivalry between the two, culminating in Lucina sabotaging Rae’s only prospect for marriage. In retaliation Rae banished her from Atamara, never to visit her family’s home again. Cissa invited her to Bellaterra but still bitter at her treatment from the family, Lucina instead traveled to her cousin’s enemy of Riombara. Lucina is cynical and quick to believe the worst in people, but a deeply loyal friend once she commits. She knows that the horrors of nightmares cannot compare to the treachery of the human heart.
