Waiting for War

The young knight sighed as he observed his men in the camp from his tent. Many were moving about anxiously, waiting for the orders that still had not come. Xarnelf glanced south, praying to see some messenger in the distance riding with the news to finally mobilize. It had been over four days now since the first mention of war again, but that was the only word as of yet.

The noble had mixed feelings about the coming conflict. He did not know who they were to fight against, but found that he truly did not care; if Taith Aenil demanded it, then he would comply. A part of him wished to start up the search again for the still missing Arcangela. Perhaps he could visit the Arcaean Library a second time and hopefully respark and regain the lost memories of his initial trip.

He felt pulled in two directions, his mind forcing him to wait patiently for the orders, and his heart compelling him to continue the quest afresh. Upon reflection though, the young man could not refute the logic that made him consider the questions:

How will I, a simple knight, succeed in this great endeavor when others with more experience have found similarly nothing to show for their efforts? Who am I to think that I can discover that which the Aenil have chosen to hide?

Xarnelf sighed once more, almost sadly, and then dropped his hand, letting the tent flap fall down. He turned around and moved to sit on his cot, where he proceeded to think up a few verses of poetry to pass the idle time. The knight hoped that information would arrive soon.
