Waiting at Remton

At the rustling sound of approaching footsteps, Xarnelf looked up from writing in his journal and noticed his captain.

"Xarne, any news from the General yet?" asked Urjintah.

He replied, "I'm afraid not, Jint. Perhaps we're waiting for more troops to arrive before moving out once again."

"Well, the men are starting to become restless for some action. I think it would be a good idea to have them train for a few hours to release all of their pent-up energy."

The young knight nodded. "Alright, we can rent some targets from the city's barracks and have them practice their shots out here where there's plenty of grassy field."

"Understood." Captain Feralgem smiled and turned to leave.

"Wait, has any of our equipment been damaged since we marched from Idapur?" Xarnelf inquired as an afterthought.

Urjintah turned back. "A few of the men have been complaining about weakened leather straps on their armors. I believe a visit to the smithy will be in order after the training session. We should also stock up on some more arrows just to be safe, since we sacrificed maximum ammunition capacity for increased travel speed, and we also used up a quiver or two while disinteresting those mad peasants from pursuing us for the quizzical return of their 'stolen' tax money back on the journey from Nahad to Larmebsi, though we had nothing to do with the collection of their dues."

Xarnelf rubbed the fading bruise on his right temple absently at the mention of the crazed villagers. "Very well. Carry on then, my friend. If you need me, I'll be here at camp, waiting for the orders to march."

The captain of the Farsighters saluted and then strode off, shouting orders for the archers to quickly assemble their equipment. Smiling to himself, the young knight turned his attention back to his writings, though part of him started to feel antsy too at the continued delay.
