Laurie had been marching from the moment he broke camp. His men were eager to reach the city of Barad Falas and finally get a decent nights sleep in a proper bed. The only thing on laurie's mind was that he'd not had anyone to share his bed recently. The loneliness since his wife emigrated to Beluaterra to answer a call from the late Harpy almost becoming unbearable, until...

Until that girl. The young one. The one who came to him for help. The one who is helping him without her knowing it. The one who has captured his thoughts.

He knew he shouldn't have sent her a letter, he really knew. He hasn't heard anything from Beatrice in over a week now. He knows things are tough over in Heen, and he knows how hard working his wife is - but he can't help miss her.

But that girl, the one in his dreams. The one replacing Beatrice's face. The one so eager to please and do well. The one with the smile...

He had been shifty ever since breaking camp this morning, always watching amongst the fellow Carelians on the mission to save Falasan to see if he could see her. But so far there had been no response to his message.

He turned to his Captain.

"Captain Ulman. Have you seen her today?"

Laurie had confided only in his Captain his thoughts of the young student. His Captain had been very supporting.

"No Sir, i haven't seen the beautiful one yet. I'm sure she's about. She likes to tease you sir. I can see it in her eyes. But you have nothing to worry about - if i know women (and i've had plenty if you don't mind me saying sir), which i do - then i'm almost certain she has a thing for you too."

"Well, I feel awful about it...you know...being married and all." "It's not like you've done anything Sir. And she's on a different continent! It's like it doesn't even count..." "Hmmm, yes so you've told me plenty of times." "Look Sir, you like her. She likes you - what's the big fuss?" "The fuss Captain Ulman, is this..."

Laurie points to his ring. A plain gold one, but on the inside is inscribed the words "With Love, Beatrice"

"Well Sir, you could just not tell her..." "I guess i could..."

Laurie glances around again, hoping to see her walking towards him. Instead he sees the walls of Barad Falas, and hopes that he will meet her somewhere inside the city.
