| − | '''Geraldo Sarmiento''' - Eldest of the 3 brothers. Quickly set out from the family house as soon as he was able, taking up knighthood in the Principality of Zonasa. He has risen rather quickly, reflecting his bold, ambitious nature. Within the first year he participated in as many battles as men twice his age. Defending the people of Batesaor against Nighthelmian tyranny, he bravely stood on the front line, throwing the dark invaders back off the strong city walls. Twice. However, his initial success was short lived. In the next four battles, the warrior knew nothing but defeat. Leading his men on a quick counter strike against Nighthelmian forces, only to find that his countrymen were slowed on their journey, and finding himself alone with his men on the battlefield. Quick to regroup however, the warrior refitted his unit and dug in to serve his kingdom in its defence against the Nighthelmian invasion, only again to be frustrated in battle. For while he lay in waiting, dug in and prepared to strike down his foe, the glorious armies of Zonasa's allies in Greater Aenilia (including the unit of his brother J.I.) surged from behind him, crashing over him like a glorious gold and red wave, swallowing the purple and black army. With a perfectly clean sword and completely demoralized unit, the Nighthelmian surrender crushed his spirits. Thoroughly depressed and convinced he had missed the greatest battle the Far East would ever see, Geraldo's heart lept at the news of the upcoming battle with the Commonwealth at the walls of Anacan. Finally, his troops would be able to show their valor, and that they did. Participating in both assaults on the city, Geraldo and his men returned home defeated, but thoroughly satisfied knowing that they had inflicted a great deal of damage to their enemy. Geraldo and every very single one of his men who returned from that conquest had multiple scars to prove it. Thanks to the work of two very skilled doctors, all of those who were not slain on the field of battle, returned to service (i.e. of 39 men, 17 were killed and 22 came back wounded, plus Geraldo, and all of the wounded lived to see their homes in Zonasa once more). The Black Shields will live forever in legends, singing praises of their courage, valor, and refusal to simply die.
