The Westgardian Ecumen is draft of an essay written by Supreme Exarch Selena Chénier, and does not represent the territories Westgard aims to govern.
It is not official realm policy, as it does not bear the Aeon's seal.

Introduction

The Westgardian Ecumen is composed of the three provinces of activity of the kingdom of Westgard. It is based on historical claims, on strategic interests, on actual land use, on sphere of influence, and on ethnic distributions. It is the lands inhabited by the mixed Weissgerian people, who arose in prominence during the Great Monstrous Invasion from a mix of surviving dwili and colonial people. By the time colonial powers managed to return to the West, they had completely replaced the previous tribes, and they now show allegiance to the crown of Westgard whenever it is demanded of them. They are now categorized as belonging to the Province of Darfix, the Province of Gelene, and the Province of Arrows.

The ensemble is cemented by the belief that The Virtues can, should, and must be enforced in the entirety of this territory.

Ideological Justification

As a nation of the Virtues, Westgard lives by its four cardinal principals: Righteousness, Loyalty, Honor, Decisiveness. As such, Westgard has given many lives in the defense of humanity, and would do all in its power to defend human life and dignity. As such, looting is illegal, considered needlessly cruel and inhumane. Wherever Westgard comes and has needs, the locals provide. Violence against the common folk is therefore unnecessary, counter-productive, and no doubt a symptom of sociopathy.

But where is righteousness if we let others do what we do not allow ourselves to do, upon our people, while we have the ability to do something about it? It would be absent. To let others violate our people would equate violating them by proxy.

Economic Justification

The Ecumen has been a fundamental source of gold and food for the realm, and without it we would not prosper as we have. Whether it is by our infiltrators' vault runs or our armies' freedom parties, the roguelands have proven to basically be ungoverned Westgardian wealth. Gold and food have been collected aplenty for the motherland. But those missions have also had a great cost, and it is only by the hard work of our armies that we have been able to push further and further.

The riches are not infinite, however. To allow others to collect the spoils of our efforts would be to sabotage our own realm, and thus would be an affront of disloyalty. And if our spoils would be to decrease because of foreigners, our whole nation might become fragile for when the next monstrous invasion hits.

Claims

Many realms have fought and bled fighting the monsters of the West. Some of them used to actually own these lands before the Great Invasion. The West therefore belongs to these people. The Eastern realms had already granted us claims to the whole west, but we also respect the claims of the realms that have historical ties to the West.

Strategic Justification

The Ecumen contains a number of cities, strongholds, and other regions that bear importance to Westgard's military activities. To let other realms take some of these territories could not only jeopardize access, but also eventually lead to those resources being used against us. Foreign activities in these regions has, in the past, caused serious problems in our attempts to expand and regain lost lands.

Conclusion

Westgard must, for its own sake and for the sake of its inhabitants, pursue the respect of the Virtues within the Ecumen. Any hostile intrusion into these lands, such as by looting, infiltrator actions, or colonization, must be sanctioned.
