Virovene/First Kaiser's Funeral
(This is an occ roleplay not discussed in the realm)
As recorded by scribe Rupole, realm Historian:
The carriage left the palace on the stroke of noon, pained black and drawn by a team of 6 black horses. Walking at the fore were the nobility of the realm, including the three council members; Field Marshal Von Snipe, Royal Treasurer Erendeard and Justicar Kalmar. Behind the Carriage marched the palace and city guard, their uniforms burnished to a mirror shine.
The whole city of Muspelheim had come to a halt for the Funeral, with may coming ceasing work to line the route. The council had declared a day of mourning, and so the whole realm had a day to contemplate the death of the Kaiser. As the route wound around the cities streets there was a sense of the whole world watching, as people leaned from windows to watch the funeral procession. Many had black material wrapped around their right arms as a sign of respect to the recently deceased, many even following the procession towards the cemetery at the very edge of the city.
As we reached the city walls the procession passed through the main gate, under the copper memorial plate listing the achievements of the Kaiser during his life. I thought it ironic at the time that the man was taken in death passed the achievements of his life, but now I see that it was appropriate, to give perspective to the life of a man, as we all must do in our in the time allotted by the grace of the stars.
The procession led outside the city wall a short way to the cemetery of the stars, past the common and pauper graves to the mausoleums dedicated to the wealthier classes. Whist the common people waited at the graveyard gates whilst the funeral party proceeded to the crest of a hill in the cemeteries centre, where a particularly opulent mausoleum lay. Here was the Mausoleum of the Kaiser, where all Kaisers were interred, but had not been used for many generations. It was a marvel of Nestronian stonework, standing the test of time where others had fallen to rack and ruin. Decorated with many adornments to the Bloodstars on most surfaces. The coach halted and honour guard was formed.
Taking the body on a stretcher the councilmen and a small contingent of nobles, including myself, were led deep into the crypt by a priest of Sanguis Astroism. we passed many alcoves containing Sculptures dedicated to rulers long past, along with there decaying remains. The smell was strange, of must and dust with slight undertones of decay. We eventually reached An area bare of statues and bodies. It was here the Kaiser was to be interred. The priest muttered incantations to the Bloodstars as he was laid on a shelf, his features peaceful, his robes fine weave, hiding the grievous injuries that lay beneath.
Once fully intrude and the priest had finished his blessings many nobles filed out leaving myself, the priest and the members of the council. The crown and royal jewellery was then removed and placed in a casket, to be taken to the royal vault until it was time for the crowning of a new Kaiser. The High Marshal then laid the Kaisers sword upon his body, a final gift to the warrior king, then turned and left, the other two council members following. The priest gestured to me and we left together.
Outside the crowds had departed, back to the warmth of the city. The council had returned in carriages and the honour guard left with the funeral coach. I stood as the crypt was closed behind me a du;; boom of heavy doors. The priest came and stood beside me, his dark robes fluttering in the breeze. 'A dark pall has settled on the land, many troubles lie ahead' said the priest. I turned, puzzled by the dark remark, but before I could ask more he turned and moved away. It troubles me now quite how true his remark would be in the weeks to come.
