Purpose

  • The purpose of the Atlas of Atamara is to provide a series of maps of Atamara which provide different perspectives on the state of the continent. Where as our normal maps merely show us what nations control what lands, the Atlas will show historical maps, who controlled what when, what was the continent like before EC nobles brought their culture here, what languages were spoken, what ethnicities populate what areas, where does trade flow, and other similar topics.

(OOC note- I do not link to maps here, so as to make this page load fast. Look up the names of maps to see the maps themselves. Also, this page is purely RP. If I get something wrong here about the culture of a nation, let me know, I'd be happy to change it for sure!)

Pre-Historic Maps

  • These maps show Atamara as folklore and ancient documents show it. In this Atlas, the term, "Pre-Historic" shall refer to times before nobles arrived here from EC.
1- Image:Atamara-Languages.jpg This map shows the ancient languages of Atamara. The language entitled "Atamaran" is the base language from which the others seem to have sprung, and is also the most dominant language, bearing the most similarities to the language brought from EC. In fact, it bears a great resemblance to the EC language, leading many scholars to believe that human population may have originated in EC, and moved out from there. For convenience, several languages have been named for modern influences (Taran, Talerian, Cabospanian). The original names of many of these languages are lost, Ajan and Baradian being the only languages we truly know the original names of. Also see the ethnic map.
2- Ethnic groups- Image:Atamara Ethnicities.jpg This map shows the primary ethnic groups of Atamara as they are understood today. There has, so far as we can tell, been little change in the ethnic makeup of Atamara in the years since EC nobles arrived. There are many strong similarities between this map and the linguistic map, because, typically, specific ethnicities, especially ones that developed relatively isolatedly or were forced into hostility of the outside world, tend to share a language, and languages tend to be ethnically centered. Naturally, there are numerous exceptions but, as a general rule, it can help a student better understand this map. All ethnic names are modern.
3- Ancient nations- Still coming
4- Nations at the arrival of EC nobles- Still coming
5- Population Map- Still coming

Political Maps

  • These maps are in the "Historic" period, after nobles arrived from EC.
1- Current Alliances- Image:Current Alliances.jpg This map shows the alliances, or de facto alliances, or de facto wars, of Atamara in later september, 1006. It will be updated whenever there is a major change. Essentially, it combines the political map, and the diplomatic relations chart.
2- Political map, September, 1006- Still coming
3- Historic Political Maps- still coming

Other Modern Maps

  • These are non-political maps, but still pertain to modern civilization
1. Population Map- Image:Atamara Modern Pop Density.jpg This map shows the centers of population, as well as the general population distribution of Atamara. While not a true population DENSITY map, it does give a general idea of population density. It is interesting to compare the trade maps, as well as the ancient language map, to this map, to look for similarities.
2. Atamaran Trade Routes- Image:Atamara Trade Routes.jpg This map shows the major trade routes of Atamara. Note that most major routs are north-south routes, traversing the length of the continent from the cold northlands to the warm southlands. These are the major axis' along which most historical cultural exchange has occurred. Note also the focus on large cities and urbanization. Before the arrival of EC nobles, trade was more spread out, and less concentrated into narrow corridors. After the more advanced and urbanized EC-culture arrived, the focus of culture shifted from the farm, to the city, and trade routes have narrowed, running between major cities.
3. Religious Influence- Still coming
