Unit Recruitment is one of the basics of BattleMaster. If you've just started with a new character, you'll have a new unit to start with, but chances are it will need replacing or reinforcing soon (especially if you get into battles).

Recruiting a Unit

First off, you can only recruit a unit in the capital. This might seem counter-intuitive, but it has been discussed repeatedly, and this is more of an OOC restriction than an IC one. Secondly, you can only recruit from recruitment centres (often abbreviated to "RC's") that are in your realm and under sufficient realm control. If a region is being taken over by the enemy, or has been freshly taken over in a brutal manner and control is at occupied, you will not be able to recruit from the centres in that region.

Unit Types

Infantry

Usually the most common type of troop on the field, Infantry are the swordsmen, pikemen, men-at-arms and other close combat troops. Infantry swing the battle most times, and there is glory to be had in the melee. if in doubt, choosing an infantry unit is a good choice to keep you well on your way to glory.

Archers

Armed with ranged weaponry such as longbows, crossbows, slings and even javelins, archers are probably the second most common type of troop. They don't hit as hard as infantry, but the fact that they can fire over multiple rows makes them able to overcome that and possibly deal more hits in total. Archers can have a range of 2-4 rows, depending on the centre that they come from and the weapons they use.

Mixed Infantry

Are you torn between choosing Infantry and Archers? These guys have the best of both worlds, but aren't as good as either archers or infantry at what they do. Although they are often looked down upon as useless, Mixed Infantry can make a great flexible defensive force. They can have a range of 1-3 rows.
