Help! I need some explanation on Marshal formations! -- Gsklee 29 December 2005 04:41 (CET)

What do you need help on? From what ive found out useing the Marshall settings will set the army up in the same formation, like all infantry on the front etc, and they will dop the same thing as long as theres room. the exception is heros, who sometimes dont like to follow orders and use their troop settings. Hints n Tips

I think the entire section should be removed completely. There is no way to cover all the combat situations and its better to have people experiment for themselves.--Aralaiquendi 03:19, 29 November 2006 (CET)

I do think such things should be somewhere in the wiki, but not in the pages that are "in the manual", since instructions on how to play shouldn't give you advice on how to play well. So, I agree with you.... --Habap 03:55, 29 November 2006 (CET)
I think only the section about the "unsure what to do?" top should be removed, as it is very flawed if used against an organised defense. If people are unsure, they should refer to their marshal. -Chénier 04:54, 9 December 2006 (CET)

Archers and skirmish

Skirmish is a rather weak position for anything but archers. But here's the question, do archers really gain a bonus out of this? I've read it somewhere that archers in skirmish positions have been reported to hand out more damage, is that true? -Chénier 04:54, 9 December 2006 (CET)

Only Tom knows for sure, but I tested it in a string of battles, and IMO? It's BS. Skirmish makes all units weaker at range also. It may be good for maximising overkill... You should also remember that each unit has their preferrred formation, so some archers may prefer skirmish over line, but it's a personal thing. --The1exile 11:58, 9 December 2006 (CET)

Defensive and Fortifications

"As well units set on defensive behind fortifications or dug-in will not move forward, preferring the available safety and cover from arrow fire."

This is not true. I just had my 22 ranged SF on defensive move out of Fortress(5) to get better shots. I lost one man to a tiny group of monsters that should not have been engaged in melee at all.

Is this a bug?
