The Spiked Aegis is a round Targe style shield with several pointed spikes haphazardly pushing their way from it's surface. To one unfamiliar with the artifact it may appear much like a regular shield someone hammered nails into, but the aegis is far more magical than that. When commanded to by the wielder, the spike will elongate and spring out forward to become as long as spears. This can make it an incredible feature in battle, especially against the unaware. Unfortunately the summoned spikes still have weight to them, and until a user becomes familiar with deploying and retracting them in battle the shield can be as much an impendence as an asset. regardless those that have made it work have made it fairly famous.

Discovery

The aegis was first discovered in the modern age by an adventurer named Cedreic in Mateosis. He took the shield from a dastardly beastman that had used it while leading his band of beastmen to terrorize the local countryside. Cedreic managed to dispatch the beast after it failed in retracting the shields heavy spikes after firing them erroneously.
