How to Manage Your Troops

Day 7

You ask, how can I recruit? How can I lead a fine unit into glorious battle? Well then, I have the answers for you.

You can recruit men in the capital. That would be Sirion, not not the realm the city which is in the realm. Anyways, you travel to Sirion, and you come across the recruiting centers. They come in all these different colors, and sizes of the centers, bu don't let that make you decide where to go buy some soldiers from. A bigger recruiting center does not mean it has the better soldiers, just that it can sustain more recruits ready to be recruited by nobles such as yourself.

Now comes the basics of recruiting some men. You need to know what type of a unit you are wanting to recruit. There are the well known infantrymen, the archers, the mix infantry. Those guys do not care how famous or honorable you are (prestige and honor). On the other hand, you have the cavalry and those special forces. Those units can be very pick about who they follow. There was this young eager noble, fresh from the mansion, so he never experienced battle yet. He went and tried to recruit some cavalry men since they looked amazing on their war horses. Those guys looked at him and said that he was not even fit to be in the same area as them. After a few battles though they accepted that he was a competent noble who experienced battle, and allowed him to recruit some of them.

After you decided what type of unit you want, you need to know how large of a unit you can sustain. Well it so happens that when you show up in the capital to recruit a unit, you do not have a unit with you, then the recruiters can tell you how many men you can buy from their center with the gold on hand, and how long you can sustain them for with the leftover gold. They would even give you suggestions on how many men you should recruit to be able to sustain the unit even longer. This of course does not calculate the wear and tear of the armor and weapons the unit sustains from the battles and simply traveling around. Remember that your honor and prestige does affect the amount of men in each type you can have in a unit. Basically, the higher you honor and prestige is, the more men you can recruit, that's if you have the money to recruit and keep them. No point in recruiting 50 men, when you cannot pay them for more than a day on your weekly income.

An important thing you should do is to recruit men with high quality armor, but are also well trained. No point in buying some green (guys not trained really) and go off into battle right away. They would have no idea whats going on and probably be slaughtered. If you have the luxury and time to train them unit, all the better for you. Just know what your going to use the unit for. A bureaucrat is not going to go into battle, that's if he can avoid it. He/she might use the unit as a cheaper form of a police force, which then they would recruit several of the poor armored units since they do not need the nicely armed soldiers to simply follow them around and do the likes of police work around the realm.

Now, onto Day 8...
